MPx200 discontinued by Orange?

Edit: Although I am yet to receive official word from Orange, some people are being told that Orange merely have supply problems with the MPx200.

More news as we get!

A number of different contacts have indicated to me that Orange are to stop selling the Motorola MPx200.

The reason for this is apparently because it is 'end of life', and for no other reason than that (despite what some members have allegedly been told).

Our sources indicate that the MPx200's successor - the MPx220 - is still a fair while away (I would imagine mid/late Q2?) - so I am surprised that this is the case!

I await a response from the Orange Press Office with baited breath... ;-)

But it can't be "end of life", because it's still the best Smartphone on the market.

Have been to orange's site and the mpx200 is NOT available on upgrade or new monthly phones yet on pay as you go is still "coming soon to PAYG". They have received nothing but postitive replies to the mpx200 it makes me think tha the mpx220 is very imminent, the e100 was still available when the e200 was out so it is coming and I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Orange website doesn't mean much - it goes like that when it's out of stock, and then when it's available again it appears as available on Pay Monthly.

Yeah it's just that on the upgrades it never goes off the web site unless they've taken it off of sale, had that before when trying to update

The joy of speculation! First it was the e100, then the e200, then the mpx200 and now the mpx220!

Wow that's a shocker.

IF the MPX200 has been has been discontinued and IF the MPX220 is not scheduled till mid year then it makes you wonder if Orange have another SP 2003 card up their sleeve.

Yep - speculation rocks

Is it possible they get better profits on the HTC models and don't want to sell the MPX200 because people will eat them up faster?? Just a thought... or... maybe they had something come up between their relationship with Motorola??

I believe it is a smart move by Orange. The Mpx 200 may be a good phone but if we compare it with all the smartphones that came after(E200,Qtek8080 for example),it has big disadvantages.

No camera on board but extra, Windows Mobile 2002, no bluetooth etc. The lack of these features make it less competitive to the other smartphones.

And let me try to forseek the future a little bit:

Speaking in a business mind I'd say that there is NO way Orange will stay like that until the end of Q2 of 2004. Either they will release earlier the MPx200(I'm praying almost every day for that!!!) or they will bring out another new device.

Looking forward to your new announcements guys

/me jumps up and looks around...

eh? :)

If Orange have dumped this phone at an odd time I'd say it was to stop diluting their signature/smartphone brand, especially while the E200 is taking a panning because of it's battery issues...silly silly silly.

I just woke up, came into my office and saw that I forgot to plug my E200 in before going to bed. Now it's at 50% and I need to leave for work in an hour. Great.

Kee :O)

(now unsure about keeping this damn thing...again)

I noticed the other day the MPX200 wasn't available on the Orange web site and wondered if this meant the MPX220 was imminent. Even though the MPX200 doesn't have BT and an integrated camera the extra power of it's processor still makes it a reasonable competitor to the E200 etc., which have these extras. Taking it off-sale doesn't make sense unless a new model is on the way. Still 6 months to go on contract - would I be able to get it sooner rather than later?

the difference between the spv and motorola is that in europe that is you can only buy an spv for use on the orange network an exclusive phone but the motorola is in 2 forms an orange loaded version same as an e100 and a free version with only the 2002 software included ,it could just be orange are angry over the non exclusive rights ,and to buy the phone in holland it costs 599 euros for an orange free version or at the moment free with the orange version with orange nl.  :wink:a final mater of interest was this phone was due for release in october in holland but did not arrive in the shops until late december due to what all the mobile shops said was a software problem!!!

I doubt the mpx220 is imminent we havnt even seen a picture of it yet orange have phones on there website for up to 2 mnths before release sometimes, lets start talking some sense here!!

I think personally its far more likely that they have eathier pulled the mpx200 because of the "stuck on motorola at startup issue" (had this problem on 2 mpx200s so far, my third is running strong) or because they are loading the WM2003 software onto current handsets.

I have herd many reports that this update will be avalable by the end of the month and is currently undergoing testing at microsoft/orange/AT&T if the networks like it they are likely to get it installed onto handsets asap (this is quite speculative and probably just wishful thinking, but id love to see the WM2003 update  )

I notice the SPV E200 price has dropped also i can now get it free on a new contract...............

could be cost related its like microsoft giving all windows 98 owners a free copy of win xp , for orange this would cost money and 100's of returned phones if the update screwed up

Hmmm - I think the XDA II is next for me, once I have worked out the best way to come by it.

The M1000 is out as Orange insist on Business Customers only, which is a HUGE mistake, and given the poor Cust. Serv. Orange have shown me over my E200 issues, I see absolutely no valid reason to stay with them, so I will be off after four months with them.

All I need do is work out whether to get the XDA II on new contract at £30 a month, for just £189, or get it as part of my g/f's O2 Online Upgrade she can have any time now, but they are listing it as £319 so it would be around £300 that way, but without an extra contract.

Or selling my E200 to my brother when he gets back from serving in the Falklands next week, but then working out what to do with my Orange contract, as he is an O2 user himself.

Descisions, and choices to confound me...

Oh and after previewing this, I just bloody realised that it wasn't specific to Shadamehr at all Brody - you used a code to make it show the readers name - you swine, confusing me like that *lol*

But what about all the other threads indicating that the 200 was going to get a W2003 upgrade? Can we now assume that this is dead?
