The demand for new features for SendSMS and ReadSMS is being addressed in the new SMS Utils being developed at the moment. For a preview of what's coming go to my SMS Utils page

http://www.smartphone.roodyn.com/SMS%20Uti...s/SMSUtils.aspx

I have put a fair amount of effort into this now and I'm thinking of charging a small amount for this version.

How much would you consider reasonable?

Well keep in mind Smartphone Studio is freeware and works fairly good at the moment - so you'd have to offer some new features and or support for MMS...

I'm using ASRDisd. (Active Sync Remote Display) it's freeware, i think from microsoft. it works by displaying on my pc everything that's on my spv screen plus i can remotely operate my spv, including making calls.

Umm yeah that's nice ... ummm but this is for sending and reading your SMS on your PC ... while I guess you can use ASRDisd (or whatnot) for the same purpose ... I prefer having an actual app on my PC ... so you can back-up sms etc etc

Smartphone Studio is great for managing SMS from the PC, apart a little limitation on long sms.

Actually I tried SMSRead (and I had unwillingly to install the bulky .NET Framework Library 1.1just for that try) but couldn't make it run on my WIN98SE PC. It show a message saying that it only runs on Windows NT systems. Maybe it's ok in winXP.

But does it support long SMS (longer than 190 characters) stored in the smartphone as single messages?

i could never get send sms to work for me, ill try this though :)

one thing i would be very interested in is if you can make it so the program has a small footprint, ie no big empty spaces in the window, like things nice and compact, maybe if you could eventually make the prorgram skinnable in someway...also someway to hide the program, perhaps in the tray, until you get an sms and then it pops up...

just tried sms utils, and the window seems to be offset by a few pixels to the right and down, the top and left edge is green and the bottom and right edge is cutoff, so cant read the info on the bottom bit of the window...

Thanks for the feedback.

I have thought about the minimal app idea as well as making it skinable, they are just not high on the priority list. As more things get done they move up the list :)

What OS are you running on your PC?

It sounds like the transparent areas are being displayed, I will try to replicate this once I know what OS you are running.

Thanks Dr. Neil

Potentially a great SMS application.

I've tried SendSMS ver 1.9 and Dr. Neil's SMS Utils.

Unfortunately with both I get "An unhandled exception has occurred. . "

If I click Continue, the phone list retrieved has the numbers one off.

ie. to get the name I want, select the name after the one I want.

I'm using Windows XP Home (SP 1) and Outlook 2002 (10.2627.2625)

The Smartphone is a Qtek 7070 running I-Mate 1.5.086 (The Qtek 1.5.091 caused the T9 function not to return correct words in English)

I've always been a fond user of SendSMS so this SMSutils would the thing for me. It just keeps reporting this :

FAILED TO INITILIASE SMARTPHONE DEVICE

Please ensure you have you phone connected to the computer and Activesync is installed and running.

Phone is connected and synced.. Never had any trouble with SendSMS.

Running besides Activesync are Developer One's Codewallet sync and Modaco's SmartJournal. I have also granted SMSutils full permissions to communicate in my firewall..

Any idea's ?

read the FAQ on thier site, you need to manually register a dll or something, ihad the same problem

I know.. I had already registered the smartsms.dll.

So, uninstalled everything, re-installed everything, registered the dll again and watta ya know : it works

Its just not showing any received messages ?

Anyway : Good work once agian Dr. Neil !

If you are considering making the interface skinable, my opinion : that would be a plus. Oh, and yes, I would pay for your work :)
