Orange E200 - Screen Fault on Brand New Phone?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm brand new to the Orange E200 SPV which I got today as my upgrade phone.

All looks great so far, but I notice the screen has a tiny, perhaps 1 pixel in size red dot on the right, middle side of the screen. The dot is only visible when the background is black or dark. Is this a faulty screen and hence should I contact Orange, or can I fix this with the phone settings? :?

Thanks all.

thats one 'broken' pixel mate... you should be able to get a replacement if its bothering you, that would annoy the hell out of me!

Sounds like a dead pixel to me, I know some people here have had the same problem and had phones replaced, give OCS a call and see if you can get a replacement.

Thanks for your replies everyone and the welcome. :D

Well, I've spoken to Orange Customer Services, and they've basically told me that a broken 1 Pixel on a 'TFT' screen doesn't come under a replacement. :?

Anyhow, I was given *lots* of info by a very polite/helpful guy, about the minimum standards that TFT Screens need, so that 1 pixel is still above the minimum requirement, etc, etc?

Here's a quote:

One blown pixel doesn't warrant service...TFT Screens always have an amount of dead pixels, 1 dead pixel doesn't warrant a replacement or a bad panel.

Cannot be made with 100 percent accuracy. Always going to be percentage chance one will be dead.

So, as I got the phone today, I'm still under the 7 day guarantee period. I could get round this and send the phone back saying I'm not satisified, all taking a few days. Then do the upgrade thing all again from scratch. What a farce.

Or, I could not bother, as it's only 1 Pixel, I only see it on the camera screen really........mhmh.....

Or...perhaps I could ring again at some point after the 7 day period, with a hardware problem that will allow Orange's automatic fault diagnosis thing to send me a replacement instantly  What 'issue' would work with that?

Any thoughts? Thanks. :(

I agree, if its faulty its faulty. There is no middle ground here. If HTC accept screens with dead pixels in them, then its not a surprise the speakers in the earpieces are shite too. Would you accept that sort of fob off about a TV you had bought with a patch of screen with nothing on it, don't think so.

Try again, the replies you get from orange seem to vary from operator to operator. Others have definitely had replacements for this reaon. good luck.

Thanks everyone for your help and info - much appreciated.

Well, I just rang again and bikespod, you're so right. :) I just spoke to a different operator who ran it through the 'system' again and has diagnosed it as a faulty screen, requiring a like for like replacement. Got none of the jargon about 'you must expect some pixels to be dead' etc this time.

So, I get a new handset tommorow, saves messing around cancelling the upgrade within 7 days and re-starting it and all that idiotic carry on anyway.

By the by, on the SPV E200, how can I make sure everything is saved to the SIM before I exchange it, so I make sure nothing is lost?

Thanks :D
