Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 As promised, we have now received an official response from Orange re: the status of the MPx200. So here it is... Contrary to rumours, Orange is continuing to sell the Motorola MPx200, and the phone remains present on our handset roadmap for some months. We are looking forward to working with Motorola and Microsoft on future Motorola MPx devices. Orange Retail and its channel partners currently have enough stock to cover customer demand and we are looking forward to providing them with further units as required. Glad that's cleared up, and glad this great handset continues to be available  P
Guest martin Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 This is great news but does this mean it will continue to be sold with SP2002
Guest Brody Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Good news, i swear that they recalled some to fix the manual! Wouldn't it be nice if new phones had a fixed directional pad, actually imagine the uproar!
Guest amaidment Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 I've just spoken to Orange about this phone and to quote their customer service guy (who scared me with his depth of knowledge about Smartphones) they temporarily been withdrawn due to 'problems with the memory card slot and cards falling out while in use'. Motorola have apparently now fixed this problem and have sent Orange a new batch. These are currently undergoing the (one month) testing process and so should be available for sale again in early March. Interestingly though it was for sale in the Orange shop earlier today!
Guest Brody Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 That is weird when you consider that the MPx200 has a memory card slot cover! I suppose the card "could" get dislodged whilst remaining inside the phone?
Guest Vector Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 This is definetly good news for smartphone!
Guest lawsonium Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 This is all well and good, but where does that leave us MPx200 MS2002 users? Is there now no chance of 2003. Matt.
Guest peekie Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 dont count your chickens, does the E100 Have 2003? no so why would the motorola get one from orange?can see all the E100 users going crazy saying where is our 2003 update ??
Guest lawsonium Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I don't own an E100 so don't know the facts, but if it were possible then I am sure owners would be justified in thinking that way. However I don't think it is as technically beneficial on the E100 as it would be on the MPx which can take advantage of the speed gains due to extra RAM.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 customer service guy (who scared me with his depth of knowledge about Smartphones) scared me with his lack of knowledge on this one
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Maybe this whole supply/lack of supply thing had something to do with Orange putting an advert in the Sun last Saturday  I think it was something like a bottom quarter page, MPx200 FOC plus loads of free texts and other goodies for £30/month. Maybe they just had a run on them which cleared Orange's stocks? :?: Makes more sense than my own paranoid ramblings...
Guest peekie Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 hey paul it was not a forum thing this motorola thing ( maybe the 3 motos had not arrived ) only kidding it would be stupid for motorola/orange to pull a selling phone ( even though in holland the motorola is not an orange exclusive as you can get one orange software free here ,when the new one comes its understandable to pull it off the market as the spv went when the E100 came
Guest cjfmurphy Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I ordered this phone 2 weeks ago , as an upgrade for my broken old SPV, but was told it was out of stock. Spoken to Orange customer services several times since then to be told several stories - it is still out of stock, it has been discontinued and now that it is just out of stock indefinitely. Just sick and tired of not being able to get a straight answer out them! Subsequently found that the orange shop in Manchester has some stock, but they are not able to match the promotional talk plan that I was offered by orange customer relations so don't want to get it from them. Orange upgrades say it should be back in stock by next week, but then again they said that 2 weeks ago! Bit of a shambles over at Orange, once again!
Guest pembo Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Well, my brother has just been on the phone after an MPX like mine and Orange told him not to bother with it because they're having too many problems with it, they also told him exactly the same thing in the store :s
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Unfortunately instead of Orange employes promoting all phones they have a bad habit of giving their own biased opinions rather than the facts and what the customer wants and actually need.
Guest craigblade Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 I phoned up the Orange Executive Office last week to be told that they would replace my original SPV with an mpx200 (if I sign up to Emergency Insurance), or give me an upgrade for free. I took a couple of days to decide, and then phoned them up yesterday to get the insurance option. However, the lady told me that orange have now withdrawn the mpx200 due to software problems. She offered the SPV E100 but I said that has the same software as the mpx200, so if the mpx200 is withdrawn then surely the SPV E100 should be widthdrawn too? She said it is different software but I don't think really she knew what she was talking about!! Anyway, I decided to get the SPV E100 for now, but it if starts locking up like my original SPV then I'll be asking for another replacement, hopefully of an mpx200 if they ever get them back at orange. craig
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 No man no! :!: :!: :!: The MPx200 is much much better than the SPV E100. For whatever reason, it has a far better implementation of Smartphone 2002 than the E100 (regardless of ROM) - more stable, smoother and just better to use. If you can live without the camera, make up some reason and get the MPx200!
