Guest MPXtricky Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Well folks, after just five weeks use my MPX200 has gone for a Burton. Last night on this board I was singing its praises. Worse still, I was doing the same at work to my mate who is a Nokia freak. Five minutes after our 'debate' my screen went black (much to my friends delight) although the LCD still showed. It wouldn't power off so I took the battery out. Now it won't go past 'HELLOMOTO' screen. To make matters worse, when I took the battery out, I found it had suffered from "snapped SIM card clip syndrome" (how flimsy?). I am thinking the MPX200 is not all it's cracked up to be.. It is indeed a sad day. I have sent mail to Orange. I await their response...
Guest hawpunch Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 this is an extreme solution, but have you tried hard resetting the phone. it seems to solve a lot of problems. turn the phone off and then press the power button with the blue action button. just beware that doing so will return your phone to its original factory state. not sure about the whole sim card thing...do you mean that your sim card was snapped in half? jae park

The sim is fine, it's the two little black tabs that you tuck the SIM under before sliding the metal clip across theother side - they have both snapped off!!! that XDA II looks nice
Guest Pondrew Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Guess the MPX200 ISN'T the reliable machine so many people were hoping (at least judging by the events of this last week). Shame as over a year on from it's launch the Smartphone platform is still plagued with problems. Seems you've got the choice of a poor battery life and 4way joystick or no down left diagonal and the risk of the phone unexpectedly dieing. Surely there must be a reliable polished Smartphone solution around the corner... Sorry it let you down MPXTricky. Hope it all works out and you either get a replacement from Orange or one of those nifty XDA II's. Laters
Guest Hugh G Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 tricky. the same thing happened to my phone. the front lcd froze, screen went black and i couldnt get it to soft rest. i took out the battery and then it wouldnt go past hellomoto screen. hard reset wouldnt do anything either.. the solution: charge the battery! even though my phone showed good battery it was in fact not true. i let it charge 5 minutes and started right back up and battery was extremely low. hopefully that solves your problem. sorry to hear about your sim car but i have pulled my battery several times and no problem. try being more careful..? this phone is by far better than any nokia i have ever seen..
Guest MPXtricky Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 I have never removed my SIM at all - only when I removed the battery I saw the black tabs sitting there, detached from whence they once lived. Go on, I dare you - take another look under your battery... your tabs may well be gone too
Guest lawsonium Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 If I were you MPXTricky I'd be asking myself who put the SIM card in originally. My experience of high street mobile phone shop workers is they are usually eying up a bit of passing skirt while ramming the SIM into place instead of concentrating on the job in hand. However, if you put it in then sorry about that, life's a bitch... ... and then you marry one.
Guest scott2eyes Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 On the subject of the SIM card, I had the same problem with mine. Never touched the SIM itself- had to remove the battery to reset the phone, put it back on and the phone started reporting SIM errors- then realised that the little tabs had gone. So a folded up post-it note and a piece of sellotape are now an integral part of my smartphone...
Guest ChrisMDP Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Funnily enough I had exactly the same just last night. I was playing games on it on the train and had a full battery indicator ... it wouldn't go past the Hello Moto screen and I really thought it was broken. I left it on charge as usual last night, tried it this morning and it booted fine. Is there a MPX200 User FAQ we could put this on? I've had the phone a week and had to trawl about in this forum quite a bit to learn all its ins and outs. Would be useful for a lot of people I guess. --Chris
Guest abatis Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Well if your broken phones are not covered by warranty I might give you $50 to buy one with a broken sim tab. PM me.
