Guest 500modaco Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 The big question for US AT&T users- is MPX200 going to work on any GSM network once unlocked with ALFAFLUX unlock? I know we can install any app on it right now but how about working on any GSM network after unlocking with .cab file? anyone using this phone on tmobile or cingular or any other gsm network?
Guest McHale Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 alfaflux does NOT network unlock your phone. In fact, it will do nothing GOOD for your phone. DO NOT RUN IT if it is an AT&T branded MPx200. If your phone *IS* network unlocked, it will operate on any 1900 GSM network in the US. It will not work in areas that are 850 only. Cingular and AT&T in some areas will not allow your SIM to roam where they have service. If that's in an 850 area, you're screwed. Because I'm a Cingular user and live in an 850 area, I need the upcoming quad-band MPx220. hope that helps... -Mc
Guest 500modaco Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I am looking for some network unlock code. On ebay they are selling some sort of unlocking code for $10. I am gussing that unlocking code is same as alfaflux unlock which might lock the phone to only one network. Anyone knows about some solution to unlock the network. I am planning to switch to t-Mobile. at&t's service is going bad in some areas.

Guest McHale Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 OK, let's try this again... Alfaflhux does *NOT* network unlock your phone. It app unlocks MPx200 that are *NOT* AT&T branded. This is not the same as the guy on eBay is selling. The guy on eBay is selling network unlock codes, based on your IMEI number. Once you buy this and apply it to your MPx200, you will be able to use your phone on ANY GSM provider. This phone is perfect for T-Mobile as they don't use the 850 band either. -Mc
Guest 500modaco Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 so if I network unlock my phone with one of these codes from ebay I will be restricted on 1900 gsm network only? But I would be able to use with t_mobile. Thanks for your input.

Guest McHale Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 yup. As far as I know, TMobile has no plans on adding 850 and would be 1900 only. The MPx200 is a perfect phone for T-Mobile. AT&T's coverage is horrible and even where it isn't, it still sucks. T-Mobile has been here a VERY long time and is really reliable. If *I* were going with T-Mobile, an unlocked AT&T branded MPx200 would be my phone. The 900/1800 bands are not used ANYWHERE in the US and will never be. If you travel to Europe, 1800 will work for you 99% of the time. If you never plan on leaving the US, the MPx200 will work great on T-Mobile. The jury is still out if the MPx200 from AT&T can actually use the 900 band but whether it does or not, it's not used in the US anyway and the 1800 band works great. -Mc
