Guest humz Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 The SPV has been out for a very long time and there are still no spreadsheet editing program available. I'm hoping someone will make one if we show enough interest.
Guest t3dluke Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Yea, I wish MS would port pocket Word and Excel to smartphone
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Given that it's supposed to be for business-users this is a strange ommission :?
Guest blewer Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 Would you be interested in a spreadsheet editing program for Windows powered smartphones? Me, Me!!!!!! I would love a spreadsheet app for my E200.
Guest peekie Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 how would you work it ?? on a pocket pc you have a touch screen
Guest Brody Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 peekie, the joypad/stick?! I'd be interested in such an application, i know of one potential spreadsheet app in the works but I think its a long way off so get coding! :D
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I'm curious about what people would use Excel / Word for on the phone. As an accountant  I imagine I could make use of them but I wonder about the screen size being too small for practical use.
Guest Palindrome Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I'll go for anything that will allow me to store and edit information in a more flexible format that using a text pad. I would be willing to pay more than the average for it, especially if it had support for the Ora keyboard.
Guest blewer Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I'm curious about what people would use Excel / Word for on the phone I'm a Personal Trainer and often use Excell spreadsheets for metabolic equations. These are normally a bit complex to remember off the top of your head  I also keep track of my finances / Tax / Income / Expenses with Excell, so a spreadsheet app would make my life a lot easier. Get to work  Cheers Adam
Guest meatgrinder Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 i would like pocket excel/word, hope sum1 sees the interest and makes it :) Dave
Guest newquay_kev Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 I too would LOVE to see a decent spreadsheet editor. Why haven't the people at MS developed a Smartphone edition of Office??? Not that I would pay for it of course, but there are those that would...
Guest mcwarre Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 I also keep track of my finances / Tax / Income / Expenses with Excell, so a spreadsheet app would make my life a lot easier. I have a better money manager: when the hole in the wall stops giving me dosh (or gives me a toffee crisp), I haven't any left
Guest humz Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 peekie, the joypad/stick?! :D I'd be interested in such an application, i know of one potential spreadsheet app in the works but I think its a long way off so get coding! ;) So who's making this program? And how far off is it? Is it a money program or an Excell editor?
Guest Vector Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 i would like this too! :D i could do little bits of coursework etc. on the move ;)
Guest xavierjohn22 Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I liké this sö i cän püt my DTR in my phöné. Posted from my SmartPhone!

Guest Disco Stu Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 umm....okay... Back on topic, having converted Excel spreadsheets with Repligo I remain sceptical that this is a goer on phones with this size screen. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest humz Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 There are spreadsheet programs available on other phones which have the same size screen...
Guest humz Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Well there we go. The SPV has been out for two years and all you software designers seem adamant that you simply dont care about what people want to see on their smartphones. Therefore I'm going back to good old Nokia with their fast, reliable handsets and useful software thats available for them. I can hapily say that I am NEVER going to buy a Windows Powered Smartphone ever again. They are slow, poorly designed and there are absolutely no good programs available for them. The only good programs available for this phone are programs which really should have been included in the phone in the first place. These programs are only good because you have to buy them in order to make your phone function like any other modern phone. I cant wait to get my 6600. I feel stupid and raped for holding onto this phone for so long, foolishly thinking that eventually, programs will come out that make this phone worth having. I've never been so wrong.
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Bit of an over-reaction there Matt, and you really shouldn't use words like "raped" in this context. I simply can't see spreadsheets being a workable proposition on Smartphones, and anyways, it's surely down to MS themselves to port Excel for the platform.
Guest martin Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Yeah, and a spreadsheet for the Nokia 6600 will probably be written in JAVA which the new smartphones (C500/MPX220) will support
Guest humz Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 I simply can't see spreadsheets being a workable proposition on Smartphones, and anyways, it's surely down to MS themselves to port Excel for the platform. Word, Excel and Powerpoint are available on any other handset. Do a search on Handango. The screen of the p800/p900 may be a bit bigger than the SPV, but the new Nokias aren't. If it can happen on a 6600, it can happen on an SPV. No problem at all. I've seen the demo version of QuickOffice premier on my mates 6600 and it works absolutely fine. Also, none of the available MS Office editors on the Symbiam platform are made by Microsoft, so why would it be down to Microsoft to create a version for the smartphone? Surely anyone could make one?
Guest humz Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 Yeah, and a spreadsheet for the Nokia 6600 will probably be written in JAVA which the new smartphones (C500/MPX220) will support  So I'd have to run an emulator in order to run it? These phones have enough trouble as it is. Why dont I just get the phone that the software was designed for in the first place. After all, it looks better, runs faster and generally does what it says it can do. Unlike any smartphone I've ever used.
Guest humz Posted July 2, 2004 Report Posted July 2, 2004 and you really shouldn't use words like "raped" in this context. The word "raped" doesn't necessarily mean in a sexual way and can be used in many contexts. eg. the rape of a beautiful stretch of countryside.
