Guest Smoovey Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Hi everyone. I don't know if this is useful to anyone but 194 from Orange UK called to ask how everything was. A week ago I just upgraded to an E200 and so they wanted to make sure everything was okay. While they were going over my tariff and other items, the representative asked if I wanted to be switched from GPRS 3 to Orange World Access Pack 3. Upon asking him the difference, he said it was CSD access (admittedly more limiting) but offered 25 MMS and 10 SMS messages for the same price. Plus the first month would be free too. Admittedly I don't really use GPRS much; it is SO easy to rack up a megabyte. So I just avoid it to begin with except when really needed. The inclusive messages sound good though.
Guest Brody Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Old news really, i know a few people who've been on this and have spoken on MoDaCo about it a few months ago, i'm on it and its good!
Guest londonlad Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Upon asking him the difference, he said it was CSD access (admittedly more limiting) What? is orange access 3 CSD based? not GPRS?
Guest mcwarre Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Orange Access is not CSD based, it is GPRS based. Orange Access is used to access WAP pages over GPRS so accessing the web or pda versions of websites or accessing e-mail are not included and will incur charges!
Guest skanna Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 I think you'll find that the access pack includes 3mb GPRS, 240 mins CSD wap, and the above mentioned sms and photo messaging. Its just that in most cases, the csd wap is not used as your phone will be set on gprs in the data connections section. Therefore your csd wap minutes are not used. If you manually change to csd wap in the data connection section then the wap minutes will be used and you'll get the two opposing arrows sign in the top right hand corner, where the small g normally appears. CSD is not as fast or as reliable, but it remains unused in the bundle so it is wasted. I suppose its for non gprs phones on the same access pack. I can access AOL using the csd minutes, which I think is a wap site. Its very basic but I can check email etc. The phone seems to automatically switch to csd, and switch back to gprs when another site is selected.
Guest Smoovey Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 It is appreciated the information might be old; I was just something which Orange brought to my attention  Before that point I had really just dismissed Orange Access packs, not really being very interested in pure WAP content. The representative I spoke to was convinced that all access went through via CDS but you got 3Mb worth of access to any content - i.e. WAP or HTML, within that. Sorry if the details are wrong at all; I'm just going off what was said  For the same price as a GPRS plan it seems pretty good value though - you get some bonus items at the same cost. If you can use GPRS as an access route instead, what is the advantage of being on a pure GPRS Access plan? Thanks everyone!
Guest v1nn1e Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 the benefits of seperate GPRS bundles is that you can have them as an addition to any othe bundles. i.e You can't have Orange world access 3 twice to have 6MB. You can have Orange world access 3 with 3MB GPRS Bundle to have 6MB. Also Orange world access is just promotional and it won't last.
Guest Smoovey Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 Grrr... the representative didn't tell me any of these things. Do you know how long the pack will run for? I might give Orange customer services a few calls and find out more about it directly. It sounds like having an Orange World access pack while they do exist and an additional GPRS bundle is the best idea for now. Thanks for the tip :) It is appreciated.
Guest James Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 well i have been upgraded to it from yesterday after i very nice guy phoned to see if he could reduce my bill. never mentioned promotion! cant be right! right? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest v1nn1e Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I didn't see any dates of when the promotion will expire. It is referred to a promotion on the Orange website. In the terms and conditions it says that you will be moved to an equivalent bundle, probably GPRS bundle 3, when they decide to stop Orange world access. It is the best option to have at the moment even if it is a promotion. Also i found out some stuff from the data services dept. You can send video messages through pack 3 not just pack 5. They work out what type of message the MMS is by size. 0<25kb equals one unit of MMS, i.e 1 free message from your bundle, costs 25 pence. 25<50kb equals two units, two free messages, 50 pence. 50kb> ? Video are most likely to be over 50KB, they just come out of your free MMS bundle.
Guest Smoovey Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 Thanks for the additional details... I'm not being moved over to it from GPRS 3 until my next billing date supposedly. That way it saves them messing around re-crediting parts onto bills and so forth :) At least that is what the representative I spoke to said. Did you get a call from someone at 194 as well offering this package? I had just upgraded and they wanted to see if everything was alright. It is definitely one of the few bonus points about Orange UK, in an environment where they are reducing many of their services - i.e. ending OVP Virgin and so forth. The missed call text message service is very useful too 8)
Guest v1nn1e Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 I had to query about the promotion myself. then i signed my self up to it straight away replacing my bundle. thinking of getting pack 5 because its out of bundle price is £2 per MB rather then £3 pound with pack 3.
Guest shadamehr Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Vinnie... A word of caution regarding your video sending... I currently have two promotions on my line - 150 Picture messages bundle, and also Orange World wich gives me even more a month. Yet on my bill, I found last month that two entries on my bill where chargeable in relation to MMS...? When I looked, I found that these were two specific Picture Messages I had sent, whereby I had used the "next page" option in the E200, to add TWO pictures to an MMS. For whatever reason, an error I would guess, these two seperate messages I sent where CHARGEABLE on my bill. I would have expected that if both pictures combined in the same message were under a certain Kb size, it would still be just one single MMS cost. At worst, it could have counted as TWO of my free MMS. But it didn't - it was chargeable outright. Being the lazy fool I am, I have yet to speak to Orange about this, but I thought I should mention it, as it might apply to your Video message theory too.
Guest Smoovey Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Give Orange a call... They should credit you for it. I had a very similar problem when being on the GPRS flat-rate SPV promotional plan. They charged the £6 monthly then somehow the billing system charged actual GPRS usage on top! So each month I would need to call up and ask for a credit. No system is perfect but Orange are usually quite good at offering credits
Guest DancingMatt Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Getting all worried here... When I upgraded to an E200 I asked them why I had been moved from the SPV £6 promo deal at the beginning, to paying £4 for 3Mb when I could have paid the same for 3Mb + pics + texts. They couldn't say why. But the guy I spoke to said that the Access pack had 30 texts, 10 pics and 3Mb GPRS. Now my bill says 10 texts. So do I have any right to ask for 30? They're presumably going to say my word against theirs, but that's what I was told. And can the 3Mb GPRS be used to Internet Explorer surfing on the E200 or not? DM
Guest ajb3000 Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 I'm on Orange Access 5 and I get: 5MB GPRS 10SMS 20MMS 5Video Messages The GPRS can be used for all access, be it full blown internet or just WAP MMS is charged in the following way: <50kb = 25p or 1 MMS credit, 50 - 100kb = 50p or 1 Video credit
Guest ncoll Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 Full terms and conditions for the Orange World Access promotion can be found here.
