Guest Pulse Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Can someone recommend a cheap and cheerful card reader please? Seen some, but I dont know if they are any good.
Guest Smoovey Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I don't know if you are allowed to link or endorse sites on Modaco... so sorry if I am stepping on any toes :? The best place I would suggest is eBuyer - they do items like card readers for very good prices. Alternatively try eBay too - sometimes you can get a very good deal on there.
Guest phonesmarts Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 if you live in the US, pulse, there are many retail stores that usually have discounts every week on things like card readers. sometimes, they come free with a SD card purchase
Guest sponge Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I have just bought one of these from Crucial. I am well impressed with it. Very well made, labelled ports, snazzy green LED on top. More importantly, it is high speed USB and can accommodate 9 different formats. It has an extention lead and uses full size usb connectors too, not those annoying mini ones. All this for a very reasonable price, which includes next day delivery. I have only had it a week, so can't really comment on reliability (it hasn't failed me so far) but Crucial are very good at honouring warranties, so I have no fears.
Guest Pulse Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 Bit too expensive though to be honest sponge.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I was at my local Dixons this lunchtime (average size branch) and there is a whole s***load of new memory card readers and peripherals in there. Belkin have obviously won a load of new business and Dixon's own Packard Bell stuff is everywhere. Hhhh-anyway, loads of stuff to choose from - may not be the keenest prices but convenient enough.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I think they had some funky little compact 4-in-1 readers around £19.99, all-singing Belkin 8-in-1 readers that were £29.99. That said, you can go to somewhere like Maplin or Supacentre and get a basic 6-in-1 reader for £14.99. With the except of Belkin, most card readers have the same innards anyway.
