Forget the value-added features in Pocketmusic

I've read all the threads about earlier versions of Pocketmusic and skipping playback. The claim with the new version 1.1. is that these have been taken care of. Well, they haven't. The fixes are either bizarre or don't work. I am running it on my mpx200. All tests were carried out with the programme running on its own (i.e. nothing in the background).

1. The extra bass function has been completely disabled now, probably because it could not be implemented properly. Yet the site still claims this as a feature of the player. The button is there on the player, and can even be switched on, but it makes no difference whatsoever to the sound.

2. The equalizer "works" and does not cause outright skipping any more on mp3s, but it still causes glitches - very tiny ticks and jumps in the decoding that can be heard if you listen. Turn off the eq and these go. This happens with all bitrates I have tried from 64kbps to 192kbps, and with both VBR and CBR files. Before anyone jumps in, these are perfectly clean rips of my own CDs with no digital audio extraction errors. Other phones might not exhibit this, but I'd be interested to hear the views of other Pocketmusic users about this.

3. Don't even bother trying the equalizer with Ogg files. It is disabled for these by default. I experimented to see if it would work with lower bitrates a=on the sensible grounds that lower bitrates = less processing power, and it doesn't - all the way down to 32kbps.

So, if you disable the equalizer (which doesn't work with .ogg in any case) and forget about extra bass (because the feature doesn't work in v1.1), what we have left are some (admittedly) cool playlist functions and a nice interface compared with the default windows media player.

But most of the value-added features do not work. Given that these features are the main reasons why people will want to pay for the software, I think the author should either deal with them, reduce the price, or change the web site to warn about the limitations.

I use this all the time on my E100. I did post a comment about the original retail version which I did buy as they promised better performance and as the posts go I was very dissapointed.

But since the 1.6 update it has been working almost perfectaly, in about 30mins of playing I get no more than 10sec's of skips.

Ogg files (64Kbs) play a lot better than MP3 files (and they are half the size :) ) but like you said you cant use the equaliser on Ogg's, but as I spend more time listening to music while I am driving (great cos I pop the phone into its cradle and if a call comes in then it stops playing :D brilliant) than listening to music at home (when at home I plug my phone into my sterio so equaliser not important)

I have to admit I cant hear any difference with Bass Boost on or off either and the skipping depends on how the levels are set. If you set the equaliser to completley level and turn the equaliser on then it does not skip. If you go mad with the levels then the skipping goes mad also. I just tend to use Full Bass and Treble as this sounds best in my car kit.

But what I think make this program stand out is the exelent file browser and the shuffle/repeat facility which is 100 times better than Windows Media Player.

Overal I am happy with PocketMusic but I do think that it is a but over priced since it is not perfect.
