Guest joppz Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 Hello everyone, I've been reading here for a couple of days, but need to ask something so I just registered On the voyager phone, the sim-lock is software based, right? And the O2 XPhone and the QTek 8080 comes sim-lock free, right? This might have been covered before, but I've tried searching without luck, and there are way too many posts for me to browse thru them all. Anyways, to the point. Wouldn't it be possible to get the original software off one of the unlocked ones, and install on the SPV e200, to have it sim-unlocked? Couldn't this download be done by anyone of the ppl with the O2 or Qtek phones (maybe with a serial linkup)? Would it be possible to call, for instance, QTek an ask for the software? Is that not what one do when the phone is totally crashed? Reason for me asking, is that I'm in need of a new phone (my old Nokia 6210 just doesn't do anymore), and after reading up a bit on the voyager, I can't really settle with anything less :) And I've got a brilliant deal on a SPV e200, but since I'm swedish and living in Germany, I have no use of a phone locked with Orange, the swe QTek software would be my choice, but the few QTek 8080's I've seen are really expensive. If this has been discussed before, please link me up :D Regards joppz
Guest martin Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 It's not that easy. Only the application lock is built into the OS. The SIM lock is built into the phone itself. The SIM lock can only be de-activated with a special code and at the moment only Orange have the ability to do this. If you are buying a SPVE200 and the seller says it's unlocked then make sure they mean SIM unlocked and not application unlocked. BTW the SPV developer phone is SIM unlocked but as with the QTEK and IMATE you are paying full price. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest joppz Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Ok But wouldn't the SIM-lock go away if you reflashed the SPV e200 with QTek software/firmware?
Guest lonegunman Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 There is now a program to unlock the e200 but at £350 it's a bit to much for me.
Guest martin Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 But wouldn't the SIM-lock go away if you reflashed the SPV e200 with QTek software/firmware?No, the phone would stay locked to the network. This particular lock is built into ALL phone models at a low level and is probably part of GSM specifications. It does not live within the MS smartphone operating system. There is now a program to unlock the e200 but at £350 it's a bit to much for me. £ 3:shock: 5:shock: 0:shock:
Guest lonegunman Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 He he he just a bit over the top that but it also does the spv,e100,xda and xda2 which by the way are all free but you have no need to downgrade on the xda, anyway I guess the price it high because he paid for the software from someone at HTC as all the above phones are from HTC, about a year ago the software to unlock the new DCT4 nokia's was around £2000 and look at the price now FREE. One thing that has got me is that I have seen no screen shot of the software at work, also was thinking if we all clubbed together and paid say a tenner each (say to Paul) buy the software and then release it for free, at the end of the day you only pay £10 which is more than you would pay from Orange or to anybody that has the software.
Guest joppz Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 I'd gladly pay a tenner for this, I'd even go higher, the shop wanted fkn 60 quid of me to install swedish software and unlock a sonyericsson t610, so a small fee for a much better phone is not a problem, and I'm sure I'm not the only one! (and since I can get the phone for almost half price, it's well worth it) edit: hate this keyboard
Guest joppz Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 There is now a program to unlock the e200 but at £350 it's a bit to much for me. btw. is this the program that was at £450 yesterday? if so it might be quite cheap soon.
Guest lonegunman Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Same program but the 450 was euros not £.
Guest joppz Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Well. I really wanna buy this phone, but with a price for the sim-unlocker at almost as much as the phone (more than the phone for me) its not really worth it, anyone know where I can buy an O2 XPhone or QTek 8080 in Germany (Hamburg area)??
