Guest mattscholey Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Hi, On the day the Orange 1.6 update came out, I updated to it, not waiting for the backup and restore utility. I thought I had a clever idea that would mean I wouldn't need this utility, by copying over my personal files, and my start menu, over to my PC's hard drive, and then after updating, copy this all back over again. I left no back-up of the updated folders I was removing. This worked well with everything except the start menu. Although the main apps work fine, as they did before the update, I've found that a lot of programs which i think were re-arranged in the update have disappeared! Orange Backup, Update, and IR receive are just a few things I've missed since running the update. But I've thought up a solution which doesn't involve running the whole update again. If someone with an SPV or SPV E100, running the 1.6 update, could post their reasonably unaltered start menu folder (you might want to zip it first) on the site, I could then download it, and replace my current start menu folder, with yours, I could get it working again. I'd want to customise it a bit after I've installed it on my phone, by deleting links to apps you have that I don't have, and moving my favourite programs around, so that they're easy to access. And then I should have a perfect start menu again! If anyone has any concerns that my method won't work, then please warn me. Otherwise, please post your start menu folder! Thanks in advance, Matt
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 If the items are not in the start menu they could also not be installed correctly either. As those items you listed ARE included in the update I would suggest you do a Hard Reset.
Guest mattscholey Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 I think they might just be contained in a different location in the update, so the link which worked for the old update, no longer works. I don't want to do a Hard Reset which will affect the whole phone, just to sort out the start menu. Matt
Guest zippyioa Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 Hi Matt, have you tried finding the .exe file for windows backup and creating a shortcut from that?? The main file is WindowsLaunch_orangeuk_AEBackup.exe If you use SmartExplorer to browse the IPSM you can then copy it find where you want it in you start menu and paste as shortcut.... It should work OK, unless I'm missing something here???
Guest zippyioa Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 The main file is in IPSMWindows.................... just realised I missed the IPSM off of the start - it always helps Good luck
Guest mattscholey Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 I think I might Hard Reset actually. My start menu is full of dead links, and I dont like using it for anything other than my favourite apps (which are all at the start of the menu), and it puts me off installing new apps. Matt
