'What do other people think of WMP on their phones'?

I am increasingly annoyed at the time it takes to fire up, the lack of FF or reverse (REALLY annoying in a long video clip), egg-timers appearing on screen etc etc. (For info, running E100 on Orange 1.6 update). :x

I also wonder if the Symbian mob have to put up with similar crap with their phones?

I am a recent convert to iTunes when it comes to listening to music on my PC and frankly, if iTunes had an interface with my phone, I wouldn't use WMP on either platform.

Far far far too basic.

Using Orange SPV E200.

I second that. It seems that the version of WMP on 2002 (I haven't used it on 2003) is the absolute minimum that could be got away with when it was included on the phone. One of the major reasons I bought my phone was because it was advertised as having an MP3 player. I didn't, for one minute, think that it would be the unsophisticated, featureless WMP software that I found myself coughing up for. I'm sure PocketMind are loving the fact they can fill in the void with their far, far superior player.

WMP is far better on the e200, but a EQ and a playlist editor would be nice!

on the e200 it loads far quicker than on the SPV original.

Features that would make me happy;

-EQ/bass boost

-Ability to create playlists, or select a folder to play from (rather than the tedious process of creating ASX files on the PC then transferring them.)

-Pause!

-FF/Rew

-Ability to rotate screen 90 degrees and make the most of the screen size

-Function to switch backlight on or off.

-Handsfree functionality (so that the HFK button could pause/play whatever is currently playing.)

I second these features.

Not having the FF/Rew is a BIG issue in my opinion

Did anyone notice any performance difference between the Orange 1.3.5 and 1.6 ROMs?

A few months down the line, I am convinced that performance, if anything, is slightly worse than before!

Does anyone know what media playback is like on Symbian smatphones?

What do people with the SPV3 use instead of Windows Media Player?

i agree - having a pause command connected to the headset button would be really usefull. I hate having to start at the beginning of a song when I stop to chat to someone on the street or in a shop.

several things SHOULD of been included, as this is MS we are talking about.

1. fast forward/rewind

2. full screen option with playback.. then screen is too small

3. playlist creation program

4. rename mp3's etc..

5. font size adjustments.. change the font size so more can be viewed

6. some other stuff.. to make it 'good'

:) MS, get this sorted!

As said, its just too basic to be useable ... Also, if you look beyond the fact that it lacks almost every feature imaginable it also has the anoying problem that it aparently has to scan the entire phone for playable media every time u start it ... The only really positive thing about it is that it manages to stutter slightly less than PocketMusic, which is useful in some situations ... but otherwise its rubish ...

In defence of Media Player, it's very simple to create your own skin and change the information displayed, change the video screen size and location etc.

Does anyone think the 1.6 update made any difference?

But the point is we shouldn't have to edit the program to make it do these things!

well i dont want to have to create a skin myself. i paid over £400 for this phone, i expect the most basic things from it, like for the battery to last just one single day without a recharge. with WMP, i shouldn't have to create a skin to get what i want from it, like a smaller font.

Umm, what's SPV3 mate? There's the original SPV (Canary), SPV E-100 (Tanager) and the SPV E-200 (Voyager) to choose from... :?:

I've officially renamed the Orange SPV E200 to SPV3 to make life simpler for everybody in the world :D like Orange and Microsoft should have done  :)

:D

I think I officially changed the name somewhere in this thread

http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=101515

in one of the later pages (4,5,6) after I actually bought the phone.

:D
