What's wrong with the performance of MPX200?? (video)

Hi every1,

Got this problem: all videos coded specially for smartphone play jerkily whether it's a trailer by C. Eastman or a vid coded by myself (i'm not a noob - been making vidz for pocket pc and nokia symbian for a coupla yrs). In fact it doesn't lag all the time - just every 5-15 secs or during change of cameras in the video or really fast movement. It doesn't slow down - just jerks a little.

My settings:

video: 100 kbps, 25 fps, 220x176, rotated 90 -> right

audio: 16 kbps 12khz mono

DivX 5.02 or 5.05

I've talked to several ppl on the irc chan - they all claim that it plays perfectly at 200 kbps and i'm coding at 100kbps!!

Yes, I'm using the latest PocketMVP beta

Yes, I clear memory before startin' to play a vid

C. Eastman's speed boosts for MPX are installed

Yes, I tried to use C. Eastman's settings - ssdd

Now WHAT can be wrong? :((((((

You havn't got a load of apps installed on the PHONE have you?

Or maybe a (CPU hungry) process running in the background?

No, I tried with only PocketMVP installed.

No, no apps in memory, i already said that in the first post.

BTW: Mpeg videos at 200 kbps and 64 kbps audio run flawlessly (fullscreen) in PocketTV

Nothing is wrong with the MPx200, in fact we were rather surprised that it has pretty good video performances.

Have you tried with PocketTV ?

To make MPEG files with encoding parameters suitable for Smartphone, use the guides and Smartphone templates from http://forum.pocketmovies.net/viewtopic.ph...php?p=3415#3415 .

Or try the following demo files:

http://www.pockettv.com/mpg/sp/mikes_new_car_sps.mpg

http://www.pockettv.com/mpg/sp/405themovie-sps.mpg

they should play at full framerate with PocketTV.

200 kbit/sec and 64 kbps audio seem a bit high, i would recommend more like 130-150 Kbit/sec and 32 kbit/sec audio.

Of course, if you want stereo, you need 64kbit/sec, so the total bitrate will become 160-190 Kbit/sec. We recommend using joint-stereo, which is more effectient than stereo.

So I think tooptoop's problems are not the poor performances of video on the MPX200, but rather the poor performances of the applications that he uses to play video (or video files made with parameters not optimized for Smartphone).

Sorry, I was just answering your question about the video performances of the MPx200.

There is nothing wrong with them, really (that was the subject of your thread!). The problem you observe has to do with something else, not with the device itself.
