Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 I recently upgraded to an SPV E200 from the original SPV. Overall I think the sound quality of the E200 is much much clearer than the SPV except that when the person on the other end speaks i can hear a sort of vibration noise as if the speaker is hitting the casing or something. Its a fairly small noise but high pitched and thus your ear picks up on it fairly quickly, and then it just becomes annoying. Is this the 'buzzing' that everyone speaks of? As stated i only see the problem when the other person is speaking. If they are not saying anything there is not crackling or anything.
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 This is probably the buzzing problem. Also, try plugging in the headset and making a call. On mine you get the same buzzing with both headset and normal speaker which makes me think it's something about how it's processing the signal rather than some physical speaker problem.
Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Ah sod - did the test and yup your right, the sound is there with the headset too. Did a direct comparison with the headset against the SPV and its does not have the distortion.
Guest londonlad Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 yep with headset too. someone wanna confirm it with a bt headset. so if orange can take the bass out of it and make it proper mono i think we're sorted. Posted from my SmartPhone!

Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 Wahay :) Got my replacement this evening. BUT its bloody worse than the first one
Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 What a load of rubbish. Again they said they would to a problem check on it.... So i answered the questions just as i did yesterday and now they say that they are passing it onto thier technical department to get back to me. I presume this is the one that everyone is still waiting to hear from. If I don't hear anything by the end of the week i will just take it back to the Orange shop and get a new one.

That's exactly what I've had on my first and this, second, E200. But some people say they don't get it, so it seems like it's not absolutely all of them? Sounds a bit like the speaker is either rattling about a little because it's over-vibrating, or it's just loose. A bit like when some boyracer drives by with too much bass through his weedy speakers and it's all distorted. I think that's the same "buzzing" everyone's talking about? Hadn't thought to try the headset and yes, that distorts in the same way, so I suppose good news to a degree, in that it's not the physical speaker in the phone?
Guest martin Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 For those that have the buzzing. Does it occur the same in all places, ie are some areas better or worse than others ? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest drblow Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 Yup! It's exactly the same buzzing sound for me anywhere, & I have used the same phone in several locations throughout Scotland (at least 200 miles apart) & in Northern Ireland - same crappy buzz everywhere. It AINT network related!
Guest martin Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 Hi drblow I was thinking more local, for instance if any differences were noticed between indoor and outdoor coverage or between different receiving signal levels. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest londonlad Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 if you call orange 150 for example you will get loads from the recorded operator thingy. but if i call anyone else its nowhere near as bad so its got to do with the sound the person is making
Guest Trancemaster Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 I got my E200 today and hoped it wouldn't buzz but it fecking does. I don't know how bad "bad" is, but mine sounds pretty awful on 150 and my two test subjects (one male, one female). Even worse, whenever I spoke I could hear the buzzing even worse. I don't know whether I'm just getting crappy reception, I'm on three bars while my original SPV gets four. I'm wondering whether it's worth getting a replacement after all the problems everyone else seems to be having because I certainly don't want to end up with one that's worse. Maybe I'll try it for a few days before I make my decision. Either way I'm keeping it, the E200 r0x0rzages the house compared to the SPV.
Guest DancingMatt Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 It seems to be bass related - so if you have the call volume down a bit you don't get as much distortion/buzzing. It might depend a bit on the sound the other person is making but it really doesn't require a particularly bassy voice to buzz.
