Finding tower locations

I currently have the MPx200 (sweet a$$ phone...but that's besides the point :) ), and I'm using AT&T and have piss poor service at my house  . I was wondering if there was any place on the Internet to find out what towers are closest to me and see if T-Mobile has a tower that is closer to my house then the crappy one that I'm using from AT&T. I'm sure I could see improved service if the AT&T/Cingular merger goes through - BUT of course that would only be if Cingular upgrades the towers to allow the frequency for the MPx200, and how quickly that would happen I'm sure nobody knows!!!

Any info any of you guys have out there would be much appreciated.

Enter in you zip and this will tell you whats available in your area. Note the Bands that are used. ATT uses 1900 in my area but not 800....I think TMobile is opposite.

I'm have the opposite problem.....

TMobile doesnt work in my home but ATT works great with all bars.

Cingular doesnt work at all because the only use the 850 band in my area.

Do what I did and get people who have diferent services to come to your house and see which works better.

Good Luck.

I've actually tried using http://www.berkana.com/tower.php3 in the past and it pretty much lists what towers are where but I don't think it's 100% up to date because I know of a tower that isn't listed yet. It's current as of Nov. 2003 but it doesn't list the new tower which was put up in the Summer.

Also, I've tried to see who has the best service when friends come over and so far Alltel is in the lead (about 3 bars of service usually vs my 1 or no bars/no service with AT&T). Unfortunately I don't think I can use the MPx200 on Alltel's service.

From what I can tell that is correct. I know a couple people that had Verizon in the area and one paid some huge bill just to get out of his contract because the service was bad here. So I'm probably going to stay away from them, and I can't take my phone with me to Verizon anyway....and I'm not about to give up my MPx200!!! :) So it looks like T-mobile might be my only choice and they are pretty new to the area (within the last year or so), and so far I don't think I know anybody using T-mobile to find out how the service is.

If your phone is already unlocked, you can go to Tmobile and buy a SIM card for $20 with no service. Pop it in your phone. You will not be able to receive or make calls but you will see how many bars are available.
