Guest kristianmatthews Posted February 18, 2004 Report Posted February 18, 2004 Virtualdub refuses to open every now and then with a user.exe error, although most of the time its fine. Any ideas why it does this? When I pull a .vob file from the DVD and play it in VirtualDub it plays jerkily. Not sure why its doing this. Anyone?
Guest siu99spj Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 VirtualDub shouldn't even support VOB files, let alone play them. I'm guessing that you have the hacked AC3/MPEG2 variant. But either way, yes it will only play VOB files slowly. On my older 1100MHz Athlon, they jerked along quite badly, though I don't tend to use VirtualDub with VOB files. For them I use either XMPEG (When its behaving) or FlasKMPEG. If I also want to make a DVD for my phone, I'll recode the DivX rip in VirtualDub. Tends to be quicker and better quality too, though thats just a personal opinion. But back to your question, VirtualDub will need a very high spec machine to play VOB files smoothly. Also a large amount of memory will help, but speed is the most critical factor.
Guest kristianmatthews Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 not just me then. ive played around with virtualdub for a few days now and pretty confident what im doing. ive got a 1 minute clip of fast and furious running at 24fps and 350kbps and its pretty flawless, although its almost 3Mb. just trying to find a perfect balance between quality and size, and whether i can really live with 8fps for the sake of a smaller file size :-)
