Guest squall Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 It has been confirmed that the Voq™ Professional Phone, will come pre loaded with both a java engine, and support for polyphonic ringtones. Tao Group Tao Group, architect of the intent multimedia platform, today announced that the new Voq™ Professional Phone from Sierra Wireless, will feature two of intent’s core technologies. In order to provide end users with powerful Java™ and audio capabilities, the Voq phone will include the intent Java Technology MIDP 2.0 runtime solution and an advanced polyphonic ringtone engine (APRE) MIDI profile supporting up to 64 note polyphonic ringers. These two technology solutions integrate seamlessly with the Windows Mobile™ 2003 software for Smartphones, and ensure that Voq users receive the quality of service and performance required from the new generation of mobility solutions. The full press release can be seen here with more info here There is no word on if the Java engine will be sold for installation by end users, or if it will be compatable with other smartphones. Support for polyphonic ringtones has also been on the wishlist since the launch of the original spv, it will be interesting to see if nokia style polyphonic ringtones are actually compatable. The voq smartphone is due out this quarter.
