Guest ronniejoice Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Hi, I got a secondhand SPV yesterday. I'm loving the whole idea of a Smartphone, and the kind chap on the SIM registration line (I had to buy a new SIM card from Orange yesterday) gave me 30 days of free Orange World WAP access. :) Last night I spent hours reading this superb forum (well done guys) and got pretty excited over the possible software I could get. I then came across the whole certified software problem, and therefore looked further into it. I noticed a program called 'SPVUnlock2', and ran it earlier... it came up with my code; 8142302, and I used a O2 simcard in my SPV... it came up with the simcard error I got before I ran this unlock program, and no prompt to type in this code. I typed in the code anyway, for nothing to happen. I then put my Orange card in later on, and connected it up to my PC. I then hit 'Explore' and hit 'My Smartphone' in the Windows folder. The problem is, all I'm presented with now is just a folder saying 'Databases'... nothing else. But my phone is working fine, and the stored sounds (for ringtones) I put on my phone work perfectly too! ...I'm going to try rebooting my phone, and possibly my PC to see if this fixes the error, but otherwise - am I screwed? Secondly, seeing as the Orange developers website no longer has the link to take away the whole certification problem, does anyone have an alternative route - or possibly could trawl through their history and find the original link to the sign up page? I want to be able to enjoy games and the like on my phone for free, and feel quite gutted that I was only a few days late to get my phone unlocked through Orange. I don't want to change my SIM card really, I'm happy with Orange; but I would like to run any software/install any homescreens etc. Any help much appreciated, Ronnie :D
Guest ronniejoice Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Some specs if they help matters... ROM update versions: Operator: 1.3.5.6 Manufacturer: 1.3.5.6 Microsoft: 3.0.12255.0 File System: 3.0.12255.0
Guest ronniejoice Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Well, sorry for that newbie outburst there. My panicking was uncalled for, as I simply rebooted my PC and things were back to normal. However, I still can't run uncertified software on my phone! Please don't direct me to the ODV as it no longer works!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 Welcome to the site :) OTA does work, and it is the only proper way to decert your phone to run unsigned software.
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 It can take a couple of goes too. Read the OTA threads carefully particularly with regard to number format and GPRS connection
