help with transparent GIFs

I'm trying to create a transparent GIF.

My problem is that the image is derived from jpg photo. So when I convert it to GIF, it becomes rather crispy in appearance.

Is there anyway of converting it without it losing it's realistic appearance?

I'm using paint shop pro v8.1.

The way i do it is to highlight the area to be made transparent, go to the help menu and scrool down to "export to transparent image" (somethin like that), export it as .png (not .gif) then rename the extention to .gif. Perfect results every time. :wink:
