Guest phildrudge Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 right, I think i'm going mad. I bought a dongle off ebay pretty cheaply, and i'm trying to set it up with my e200. the computer will 'see' the phone, but only has ssa and audio gateway. (whatever the  they are) So far i have managed to set up a bluetooth serial port on com 4 but activesync still will not see it. The software that came with the dongle says that i can do this fandangled PIM transfer which effectively does the same thing, but it says that the phone cannot do it!!!!! raraaaaaaa!!!!!!!   :?:  :?:  When i do the 'setup bluetooth activesync' thing on the phone it just tells me to connect to a suitable device or something and then has a really sarcastic exclamation mark after it. i think i'm going crazy. does anyone have any ideas?
Guest shadamehr Posted February 21, 2004 Report Posted February 21, 2004 In Device Settings OR 'View or Modify Configuration' within Bluetooth Neighbourhood on your PC, you need to set the Local Services Bluetooth Serial Port, to a COM port between 1 and 9. Then in ActiveSync settings you need to MATCH the COM port for it to use, to what you have set in the previous step. Then ignore the setting up error in Active Sync on the phone, and just go striaght to Connect via Bluetooth in the options. This is the REALLY short version of it. For the simple reason that the full post is massive, and already on here if you do a search.
Guest phildrudge Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 woohoo!! finally done it, I had done a search by the way, and followed alll the instructions on the post but it still wouldnt work. The problem was int he software for the dongle eventually. Once i had uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them at magically sprung into life!! success at last!! Cheers for the help though :) :D
Guest shadamehr Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 No problem, because if you are anything like me, you will find that over time, it stops working again for no reason. If so, the following steps in order of severity, usually work for me. 1) a quick de-activate of Com connections within Active Sync, and a Re-activate. 2) A "discover available services, followed by an SSA Connect, within Bluetooth places on the PC 3) A changing of the Local Serial Port COM port on the PC, and then a setting back to original value 4) Removing the Bonding between phone and PC, then re-discovering and re-bonding 5) If none of those work, uninstalling and re-installing the Bluetooth software on the PC works for me in the very worst case scenario.
Guest phildrudge Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 cheers for the help mate... I wonder why it is so unreliable? it seems like it is so temporamental its rediculous. Also, how do you find the range of your computer? Mine seems pretty good within the same room, but as soon as i leave the room is disconnects. A little irritating, because if you have to be in the same room you may as wel have the phone in the cradle!!! ah well, maybe my dongle isnt powerful enough.
Guest ferret Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 A little irritating, because if you have to be in the same room you may as wel have the phone in the cradle!!! ah well, maybe my dongle isnt powerful enough. Remember the e200 has only an approx 10m range so there's no point in buying a 100m dongle if the phone can't communicate with the pc
Guest phildrudge Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 what about through walls though? i reckon i can go anywhere in my house and still be within 10m of my computer!
Guest shadamehr Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 A 10M stated range is WITHOUT interuptions, so forget "I'm behind two walls but only 6 metres away" - Bluetooth range on the E200 is poorest of any BT device I have ever used (and I've got plenty enough). Which leads to my next point... Bluetooth connecting to the E200 IS such a pain and a chore, and so prone to failing over time. BUT... for once, the E200 is not to blame - Bluetooth connection to anything I have tried is the same - Nokia 7650's N-Gages, SE phones you name it. Bluetooth to me is still FAR to faffy and technical to set up to be wide market - for simple example my g/f is pretty IT literate, but its not something I would EVER expect her to muddle through. Until it becomes much more reliable, and easy, it will not be a mainstream device to me.
Guest phildrudge Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 thats very true. It would seem that a drastic lack in software (come on guys!! ) stops us from transferring files from our 'best phone on the market' to all of the other boring crap that is around who incidentally can do exactly that.....combined with a poorly developed bluetooth signal..... combined with extortionatly priced headsets.......and we all wanted this fantastic technology????? #-o i'm guessing an extra 50 quid at least to have the function on the phone, and say 50 quid for a headset... 100 quid just so that you dont have to have the little wire coming to your ear? hmmm, i bet the various different companies are laughing at us suckas.  i wonder how much it costs for to have bluetooth on a phone.... the e200 would be a lot cheaper i'm guessing without it.
