Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 User runtime has answered the prayers of many a Rick Dangerous fan, and created a tweaked, e200 friendly version of xRick! Runtime writes: XRick Dangerous V3 for E200 This is a special version built for the Orange SPV E200 Smartphone, the only significant change being the ability to move diagonally on this platform! Special thanks and credit go to BigOrno and STuFF, and any other contributing authors involved with this fine port! INSTALLING I'm not much of a CAB expert so this release requires a little effort on your part. 1) Install the original XRickV3.cab as per usual. 2) Overwrite XRick.exe on your SPV in: 'StorageProgram FilesXRick Dangerous' with the new file contained in this release. You can safely ignore the file xrick_src-v3e200.zip; this contains updated source code for use with Microsoft Embedded Visual C++ 4 and Smartphone 2003 SDK. CONTROLS The button layout is virtually identical to the original port with the exception being the 'VOLUME DOWN' button (herein referred to as the DIAGONAL button). This button has been re-assigned so that holding it down will allow Rick to crawl or jump diagonally in the direction he's facing. E.g. To crawl right, manouver Rick so that he is facing right and then push DOWN on the joystick and press the DIAGONAL button simultaneously. Likewise to jump left, manouver Rick so that he is facing left and press the DIAGONAL button. Rick will continue his ascent for as long as you hold down the button, so keep it pressed to complete the arc. To fire your gun press the FIRE button ('VOLUME UP') and push UP on your joystick. Conversely, to drop a stick of dynamite press the FIRE button and push DOWN on the joystick. - runtime PS. If someone knows how to trap the RECORD/CAMERA button so it doesn't popup the Camera app during gameplay please drop me a line The download is attached to this post, if your are viewing this on the portal, click 'view comments' to view the download! Guest runtime Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Hopefully you'll find the diagonal control is reasonably intuitive - I'm sure theres room for improvement but I shall have to play the game a bit longer before I can figure out exactly what that is :)
Guest STuFF Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 thank you for the update :) i'll try to make a correct updated cab file :D
Guest SmartphoneFrance Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 A CAB file for direct installation from Smartphone is available here : - http://www.smartphonefrance.info/mobile/do...?ID=XRick3-e200
Guest runtime Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Thanks v. much for the CAB install, far more convenient :) It occurred to me that the lack of 9 way joystick isn't such a great loss, perhaps my memory of the original SPV is unfair, but trying to accurately get diagonal movement out of a smartphone joystick is a little fiddly...
Guest Kallisti Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Anyone have any problems with left/right movement stopping? It seems to be when you hit a wall, even when you land it doesn't re-commence walking.
Guest runtime Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 I haven't encountered that problem, whats the easiest way to reproduce it? FYI: When you release the DIAGONAL button, it should stop Rick from moving until you release the joystick. If that behaviour is not desirable then let me know what you think should happen, thanks.
Guest pembo Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Any chance you could do a version for the lonely MPX users here? :)
Guest runtime Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 If you can tell me which processor it has I could try and compile a build for it (assuming the Smartphone 2003 SDK supports it). If MPX is Smartphone 2002, you could ask STuFF run off a build for you using the for the appropriate processor type.
Guest daniel darky Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 Thank-you so much for making this update!!! I used to play this on the Amiga, was a bit young back then though and so just used to skip through levels if I got stuck, now I'm properly playing it and realising just how addictive/frustrating it is! Wahhhhhhh!
Guest STuFF Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 yeah ! Smartphones are perfect for playing good old games :)
