Guest afroahmed Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 HELLO! :) I recieved my smartphone from e-bay a couple of days ago and i havent put it down since lol!!! i have the original spv and it works fine and i do not know what i would have done without this website, it answered all my begginers questions. So, firstly... a big thanks to modaco and all its members for keeping such a fab site like this. Now, down to my problem. I discovered that the internet wasnt working with my phone and i thought i probably hadnt set it up right. Basically what happens is when i attempt to connect it says: 'unable to connect. verify you have network coverage and try again' This happens even when i have full reception. So, i took my handset to my nearest orange shop and they had a look at it. Everything was fine, the internet settings were right and my simcard was wap and gprs enabled and it all should work....but it didnt.!?!! Finally, i mentioned to the store man that i was actuallly on payasyougo, not contract. He then said to me that there have been some problems with payasyougo simcards and this mobile phone and that this is the reason i cannot connect to the internet! can this be true??!!!!! what is the point of creating a phone when you cant use payasyougo simcards in it! especially when your contract has terminated and you still wish to use the handset. so, i am appealing to all modacvo staff and members; -**has anyone else heard about such a problem??? -**does anyone use an spv mobile phone with payasyougo...if so, does your internet work fine? As i said before, my simcard is internet enabled and as far as i know my spv is set up correctly. Thanks very much for your help its just that i am so enjoying having this fone and the fact that i cannot connect to the internet limits my fun!!!!! Thankyou in advance,
Guest James Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 you can find settings here:- http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2780 also, from another post, martin wrote: The Orange PAYG settings should now be exactly the same as contract settings but if you have any problems then try changing the APNs to payginternet and paygwap. hope this helps :)
Guest afroahmed Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 apgns? sorry but you have lost me
Guest James Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 sorry, Orange GPRS settings Access Point: payginternet Orange WAP settings Access Point: paygwap
Guest martin Posted February 22, 2004 Report Posted February 22, 2004 Yep :) Just go to Programs-Settings-Data connections, Menu-Edit Connections. Click on GPRS connections, edit Orange GPRS and Orange WAP and change the APN's (Access Point Names). Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest afroahmed Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 thanks!!! it seems to work fine now it says on orange pay as you go it charges something like £4 for every megabyte of usage. how much is a megabyte in smartphone terms? - how many streams - how many interet pages - is this cheap?
Guest James Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 depends on what you are looking at mate.... i use about 10meg a month. i only really surf on the modaco mobile site formmy phone. normal websites would be a killer! really hard to say how much for you. why not trial the GPRS counter from www.handango.com and then work out how much you would be expecting to pay. :)
Guest afroahmed Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 ok thanks what is the url for modaco smartphone version?
Guest James Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 just type www.modaco.com into the phone... it will auto switch!
Guest afroahmed Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 ok that gprs counter looks good but 15 pounds is too much....isnt there a free version? (not the trial version)
Guest James Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 dont think there is one mate, there was talk of one but i never saw it.....
