Storage Card Problem with SPV E200

Hello;

I hope someone can help me with this issue which is driving me crazy.

I recently got an Orange SPV E200 phone and I bought a Kingston 256 MB storage SD card.

Once I put the card into the phone, it can recognize it but if I attempt to write to it, with anything (pictures, mp3s, new folders, etc), I get the following error:

"Error Copying File:

Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type."

Naturally, the first thing I did was make sure the lock on the SD RAM was was to read/write.

Then I took it back to the store and they put the card into a digital camera and successfully managed to copy any/all files to it through the camera. So it would appear that the card itself is perfectly fine.

I have checked my phone over and over for any permission options for the storage card, but have found nothing. Even if I attempt to take a picture with the camera and save it on the storage card, I get the following error:

"alert

Unable to capture image.

Not enough memory."

Obviously the memory is there (256MB) and it says so in the Window's Mobile Task Manager under "System Info"

Does any one have any ideas what could be going on? Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Welcome to the site :)

Try formatting the card using Task Manager from Binarys

this is available from www.monolithix.org

Thanks for your response...

I tried it.

I get "Error while formatting the card"

Any other guesses?

awarner - its no good mate - kingston are one of the brands with the e200 issue.

rosenman, some certain brands of memory cards, namely kingston and viking amongst others, have issues with the E200 (or rather, the other way round actually, as it is the phone that is at fault).

This manifests itself in a situation where you can use a card reader etc to place files on the card, and the phone can use them fine.

But as soon as you try to use the PHONE to write to the card/save files, thats it... Kaput.

Supposedly this is an issue with any brand of card that uses a multi cell memory technique - but I can't comment.

You can either return the card if you can get a refund (I did from eBuyer), or complain to Orange, as it is a known issue (even if they try to say its not), or the forthcoming ROM update for the E200 allegedly resolves this I seem to recall reading.

Posted earlier but not sure what happened to it. Lets try again.

Kingston have two different types of cards a single layered card and a dual layered card. The SPV E200 cannot handle the dual layered card and you need to ensure that when you purchase a card its single layered not that, thats much advice as no-where appears to tell you before you buy and find out it doesn`t work !!

The only advice at this time is ask before you buy which sadly is no help to you :?

As dual layered SD become more common i can see this problem happening more and more.

Hey shadamehr

Thanks for your response - if only I'd known this sooner!!!

Anyways, I was fortunate enough that the store that sold it to me was generous enough to replace it with an "Apacer" brand flash ram and voila - it works!

Anyways, I hope this thread helps others to be warned before they buy. I bought Kingston because I know it is good ram, but obviously the problem seems to be with the SPV E200, not with Kingston.

No problem mate - pleased you got it changed.

To try to help people from making this mistake, I have in the past posted the same info on here elsewhere a number of times.

Hope you like the E200 too!

256 MB Kingston SD, no go. Tried formatting etc still no go. Golly I wished I had looked up what card to buy rather than going with a safe brand. Back to dabs it goes.
