WAP Access from E200

Having just recieved my new E200, it was bought specifically for me to access certain wap sites.

I have had great results accessing WIlliam Hill amongst others (no, I am not a pro gambler, but it does help provide another income), but when I try and access Ladbrokes, I get no-where. I cannot get past the log-in screen, whilst others appear fine.

To test, the site is www.ladbrokes.com/ladbwap/ The site does work fine, but from the SPV, no entry!? My first thought was a security restriction of some kind, but other sites would not work, so I'm a little lost. You can test the site even as a guest, and it still will not let you in.

If anyone has any ideas, they would be most appreciated. It would be a shame to send the phone back. It could just be my phone that is faulty? :?

PS - great site - very very educational!

For WAP sites use wsp://(address) instead off http://(address). This will access sites via a WAP proxy server.

Also goto Internet Explorer, Menu-Options-Connections and untick 'auto detect setting' and make 'Select Network : WAP network'.

This will give you more success with WAP sites.

You can use Menu-properties to confirm you are using the WSP protocol and if it's not, use Menu refresh.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Hardcore.

Unfortunately it seems not to work. I have tried several combinations, non of which are successful.

It is pretty strange that it only seems to happen on this WAP site. Could I please ask you to try accessing the Ladbrokes site yourself and see if you can get through the initial entry screens (enter as a guest - I can't even do that!). If you can, then it maybe I have a strange and faulty phone in my hands! Shame it will have to go back! (I have accessed it on my Sony Ericcsson with no issues, so the site is up and working)

Update -

After talking with Orange, they also cannot connect to the Ladbrokes site!

Now asking a friend (who incidentally works there - at HO no less!!) to check it out on his phone for the final confirmation. Essentially, looks like there is some network thing that prevents access to that one site (or maybe more?).

I've contacted Ladbrokes to confirm/deny/do nothing about it, but looks like I'll have to move on - and away from Orange!! Shame really!!

Hi Stanley

Yep - I was in the Ladbrokes WAP site as guest yesterday when I posted :) I've tried it again just now and still OK

If you load the this WAP site and go to menu-Properties it will probably say Protocol= Hypertext Transfer Protocol - thats your problem. Some WAP sites don't like the SPV with direct internet connection.

You really want to use the WAP connection via a WAP proxy server (on the SPV this uses Wireless Session Protocol).

Try this

Goto Internet Explorer

Change ladbrokes address to wsp://www.ladbrokes.com/ladbwap

Menu-Options-Connections

Tick Auto detect settings.

Done

Click Memory

Select History and Clear

Done,Done,Home

power off/on phone to clear phone

Now when you enter the Ladbrokes site it should work.

Use menu properties to confirm that it has protocol=Wireless Session Protocol.

Thanks. Tried and failed. Looks like I may have a duff phone afterall - I'll try another one. My Orange friend also managed to get in. Very strange. I manage to get to the log-in screen, but then in just does not want to move on from there?

Thanks for all your help.

Hey, you were right - it's seems to be something to do with the Orange proxy server :?

It doesn't work for me either so maybe it's being blocked for some reason.

I finally remembered that I am using the Orange WAP APN with the O2 proxy server and that's why its working

Try changing the proxy address to 193.113.200.195

You may have to use Menu-Refresh on the main Ladbrokes page.

Hi Martin

Managed to get a fault code from Orange  , so have packed and sent the phone back to MobileShop (Great service from them - highly reccommended!) and they will send me another one. I'll try with the new Proxy address (I imagine it is quite easy to adjust in the settings) and tell you how I got on.

Any chance this affects other WAP access sites - could be another fix for the forum - from a NEWBIE!!!! :)

Thanks for all your help!

HI Martin

New phone arrived yesterday, only got round to trying it tonight. Success - It did require a change in the proxy address and all the other changes - but it now works! Great - thanks for all your help. Now to work on fixing the battery!

Stan :)
