Scratches on screen - e200/Qtek8080/Voyager

There have been a few posts regarding scratched screens, and what to do with them. I want to proceed with caution here, so has anyone successfully removed scratches from their e200 screen, and if so with what method was used?

There are rumours that brasso can be used (sounds dangerous) and also toothpaste (wouldn't this be a bit too abrasive?). There's also a product called Displex which seems to get rave reviews:

Are there any e200 owners out there can pass first hand knowledge/experience of scratch removal? I've got some Displex on the way, so I'll let everyone know my results - but it would be nice to hear other people's comments.

Kev,

I have used this on my SPV and MPx200 with excellent results. Make sure you use the little and often method!

Thanks. I'm assuming its the Displex you've tried? Question - did you apply to just the scratch or would you suggest an even covering over the entire screen?

Same thing happened to my E200, use displex, it works. You need to spend some time on it though if they're deep scratches but they do rub out.

Mine gets replaced under Orange Care too often to worry about scratches and stuff.......

Jampo, out of curiosity what have been your reasons for replacement handsets?

I was going to ask in another thread if Orange care is worth the money. I suppose with the e200 it probably is.

Back to the scratch I now staring at, if I can't get rid of it (or more appear) then I'll use the 'buzzing' as my reason to replace the phone under standard warranty (thus get a new scratch free one, and one that still buzzes!).

Actually my reply was a little flippant. I got my E200 back in November, and immediately experienced problems with email, bluetooth, battery life etc so raised faults with Orange tech support. It took them a while to get back to me, at which point they phoned and suggested a replacement phone.

It arrived, but its no better (in particular, I have bad email problems with it downloading the wrong emails to the headers I've asked for!) so I reported it back the same day as still not working properly.

This was a few weeks ago.

in the meantime, I've put a rather nasty scratch on the screen - so was happy when the phoned earlier this week to say they want to swap the phone out again!!

I daresay if you report the handset as "buzzing" or can find a way to hang the software (Im sure Orange won't recommend doing a Hard Reset) then you should always be able to swap it out for nowt....

The lady did state they reserve the right to charge £18 admin fee (and would do so next time) but if I'm returning the phone each time due to PROBLEMS (not self inflicted damage / loss etc) then my statutory rights require either a repair or replacement of the problem without charge. As their policy is to replace with a refurbished phone, I don't see how they can ever charge (whether or not you have Orange Care) if the problem is down to the software / hardware within the phone (buzzing etc).....

So whilst my answer was a little flippant, it is actually true. Oh, and my original SPV was swapped out 3 or 4 times over the year I had it too!!

Thanks for the insight Jampo. I definately do have the buzzing issue, I think I just might be tempted to try and get a replacement. As far as refurbished replacements go, do they arrive in good nick cosmetically?

Back to the subject matter now, my tube of Displex arrived today. I am pleased to say the scratch is virtually gone - its only just noticeable when the phone is off (or in 'screensaver' mode). When the screen is on you can't see the scratch at all. :-)

However, it does in fact leave a bit of a mark around the area where the scratch was. I've seen it described in other posts as looking a bit like a watermark. That's a pretty good description. Like the scratch you can't see it when the screen is on. When the screen is off there is definitely a ring there where the Displex has been applied. Its better than looking at a nasty scratch though!

This happened on mine, but continued rubbing across the screen removed any marks back to perfect condition

Did you keep rubbing with the Displex or just a dry soft cloth?
