Guest Dr Who Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 Haven't been keeping up with all things smartphone of late but due to additional free time granted by convalesence I thought I would finally get round to updating my ROM. I have an SPV E100, which since a hard reset a few months ago has been plain vanilla, no app unlock, nothing. I used the Oragne backup/restore thingummy and carried out the orange ROM update. All went unexpectedly smoothly, no hitches and I am quite happy to have a (still) working phone. However, my backlight keeps turing itself on every so often, i.e. at least every 5 minutes. It is annoying 'cos I keep thinking I have an incoming. The light flashes on and then turns off in 10 seconds (the set time). The timing seems intermittant and I guess this will eat my battery. Anyone else seen this? Is it a setting that I have missed? Is it doing it every time it checks a connection to the mast? On a similar note after the update my clock was 15 minutes fast. Not a problem - I just wondered why? Also, is there any news on when I will be able to voice dial? I am getting bored of not being able to use my phone in my car. Cherry Pie The Doctor
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 For your clock problem have a look at the time on your PC the phone is probably syncing with the PC clock. as for the back light, is it coming on whent eh phone is in the cradle?
Guest squall Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 the display comes on when the battery has reached full charge, so if you are leaving it on charge over night the battery will fully charge, stop drain and charge again. This may be what is causing the backlight to come on, not sure what you can do about it though
Guest Dr Who Posted February 27, 2004 Report Posted February 27, 2004 The phone turns the backlight on at ALL times the phone is turned on. I do charge the phone overnight, but I have the phone turned off so I don't have the light problem then. Kind of an odd problem, eh? The Futurama skin looks very nice though.........
Guest squall Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 sure is strange. may be due to something you have installed (possibly even futurama skin!) u could try uninstalling the skin and seeing if it stops i suppose
Guest ferret Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 My original SPV did this pre and post 1.6 update, I think it's just another "feature".
Guest squall Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 lol - feature. is that in the same context as a 24 hour discharge on the battery?
Guest ferret Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 lol - feature. is that in the same context as a 24 hour discharge on the battery? yep :)
Guest Dr Who Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 'Tis a very strange feature. Only appeared post the 1.6 update and until I did the update my phone was 'as received' from Orange. No hookey software, not even application unlocked. The time on my phone is again 15 minutes fast and I don't think I have synched it to my PC since the last time I changed the time back to the real time. My battery life seems to be about the same as pre the ROM update, so although the back light is on a whole lot more I don't get stuck on dialling in GPRS which seems like a fair exchange.
Guest Dr Who Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 Sorted iteself out after about a week. Didn't change anything, just stopped turning the back light on. Battery life is much improved - it lasted from Saturday morning to Sunday evening with only 8 hours off in the middle. Handy.
