Guest Baddass Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 ok, in view of updating the rom in the (hopefully) near future, whats the best way to back up my phone guess all ive really changed is my contacts, most of them were taken from my contacts in outlook but some i added manually into the phone. how can i transfer the entire contents of my contacts onto outlook on my pc (ver 2003 if it helps)????? as i say, some are already there, but some are just phone numbers but would like them to become new contatcs on the pc if its possible? and stuff in the my documents folder, which can easily be transfered to pc and back again after the update...........what about installed progs? would i just have to reinstall them? i have some installed on my SD card, will they stil work on the freshly updated rom, or would i need to reinstall? do they change the reg on the phone itself? thanks guys
Guest ferret Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 back up contacts, calendar, tasks etc using active sync and outlook. Or you could use orange backup. The programs will still be on the SD card but you'll lose the shortcuts, you can re-create these using Smart Explorer from Binarys or windows explorer is phone is connected to PC. What I do is to copy all the shortcuts to my PC before updating and just paste them back post update.
Guest Baddass Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 i can easily sync my SPV with outlook from pc > phone, but how do i sync it the other way?
Guest Rob_Quads Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 In the settings of activesync you should be able to set it up to combine the two rather than go one way or the other. If your computer is connected to the net use Orange backup as well as it will cost nothing using the passthough.

Guest alanclose Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Is there a file that holds sms messages - can this be copied to the computer and then copied back after any update?
Guest Rob.P Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Either that or wait until All-locations ALL-Backup software is released
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Sprite have a back-up / restore tool out now. Back-up works fine but haven't tried to restore yet. See this thread : http://smartphone.modaco.com/ftopic103512....ighlight=sprite
Guest newquay_kev Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Back-up works fine but haven't tried to restore yet. LOL! Let's just hope that it does in fact work when you need it to! Has anyone out there tested the restore element of this app?
Guest Disco Stu Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Forum member abatis did and reported that it worked well. Not with Orange ROM however. kjk had trouble with restoring registry alterations on his QTek. Any others ?
