SPV Completely Dead

I have an SPV (mk1) that has just died, I was wondering if any-one has had any similar problems or pointers as to how to fix.

Here's the symptoms.

1) The phone has been 'tempermental' whilst charging for some time(sometimes green light did not come on). Needed to be plugged in on 1st bootup.

2) The other day I switched the phone on, and it took ages to boot, came up with an error message "checking ROM" or something similar, booted down, and when it re-booted it had reset many settings, (such as home screen & ringtone etc) - all sms contacts etc were still there.

3) A couple of days later I pulled the phone out of my pocket, and it wouldnt wake up. (led still flashing). I know SPVs can be a bit tempermental, so I removed battery, when i re-booted it got 'stuck' on the SMARTPHONE 2002 screen.

4) I've had the phone apart, and cant see anything obvious. Most of the time the phone will not power on (although the speaker 'clicks' when I first connect the battery) other times the phone sticks on either the sunrise, or the SP2002 screen.

That's it. cant do hard reset, although I suspect that it wouldnt do too much good, as i suspect a hardware fault.

I have another SPV that has been canibalised, so I have many spares

Any advice??

Have you still got the battery from your other phone ?

See if you can get it to charge up while it's attached in to this phone.

Yep, neither battery will charge in faulty phone, both will charge in "spare" phone.

I have managed to get it booted, and works ok until I move it, at which time it freezes on whatever screen it is on.

It is currently sat charging in the cradle with vibrate switched off.

(not very mobile for a mobile phone)

Suggests to me it is a hardware fault. :)
