My E200 cradle charging experience

Just thought I'd share a stupid situation I got myself into.

I wanted to give my E200 a full charge from the USB cradle. So I thought I'd do smart thing and discharge it fully before starting the charge. To speed up the process, on went Bluetooth. Once the phone's battery gave up, it as usual turned itself off. I placed it into the cradle and expected to see the orange charging light come on, no......

It appears that it can only charge from the cradle when it's on. Unfortunately, there's not enough juice to even power up. So no phone until this evening. Adding to the stupidity is that I have a spare charger from the original SPV, sickening really.

Update:

In the vain hope that it might charge, I left it in the cradle. The led is now flashing red and doesn't look good. I think I'll remove it. :-s

Question, do you have the AC adapter plugged into the cradle or are you charging purely over USB?

Purely through USB, I didn't see the point on using my spare charger as my work PC is always on. You live and learn.

Don't think you can charge using USB only? (but may be very wrong!)

I have a USB cable and it only syncs and does not charge - as I discovered one day to my horror!

Sure you can charge with the E200 cradle. It's the main way I charge the phone. Like I said in my first post, don't let your phone die and try to charge it with only the USB cradle, it won't work.

A totally flat battery will indeed require the AC charger - USB charging alone will not do the trick.

Yeah I know now. It was just a warning to others not to let the E200 run entirely flat before trying to charge it with only the USB cradle.

See above. I may not have brought the charger, but I'm not entirely stupid either.

obviosuly u can charge by usb cradle, but if the battery is totally dead then when u plug it in the battery doesnt have enough charge to initiate the connection with the PC thru usb so it wont even recognise its there, u may even need to have the phoen on to start the initial charge bit, but once it's going ur ok

Ok, I have a (maybe) stupid remark about this. It seems to me that, if the phone is charged through the cradle, the battery life is shorter then when charged by the AC adapter, although fully charged...

Am I going insane or is there an explanation for this????

A computers USB output is regulated to 500mA if you check your charger it's output is 5V @ 1mA

Your computer may not be giving the required output to the USB port to satisfy the needs of your e200.

Most USB devices are supplemented with an AC power adaptor due to the limited output from the USB.

Ok, but that would mean it only takes longer to charge the phone, correct? I get it charged upto full 100% (according task manager) but it seems to run flat a lot quicker...

PC needs to be on.

Not neccessarily, my PC provides power to the USB ports even when switched off.

This is certainly not the case with my E200, am currently at work and found my phone switched off due to low battery a few hours ago. Have since restarted it several times, of course it shut itself off again very shortly after each switch on, so this battery was most definitely flat :).

An hour or so ago, i dug my laptop out, along with my spare cradle that i keep with the lappy, E200 went onto charge via USB only and immediately the orange 'charge' light came on and i was able to restart the phone with no problems whatsoever.

Hence it would seem that the E200 is capable of USB charging whilst turned off and that the USB provides sufficient power to start-up/run the phone aswell as charge (at least mine does :D)
