Guest londonlad Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 its not that loud!? yeah ok, it does make an anoying sound. happens with my e-bob (nec e808), but lets not go there
Guest Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Hi, wrote that in December here in this group ! Yes, it sings. (Nicely expressed. I would even call it whistling or humming at about 16 kHz or so.) The charger model which surely also came with your Qtek 8080 is from Phihong, a Taiwanes manufacturer, model PSC-05R. Phihong wrote me that this model was just produced for OEMs and they won't sell it to individuals. On an other list on the internet I found that this model is no longer produced by Phihong. Yes, I hope so ! Anyway, I bought a spare charger (accessories for the Qtek 8080 are really hard to get !) from the German company Handit.de. It came packaged as original equipment for Qtek 7070 and 8080. Cannot tell you here the manufacturer (it lies in my office), but it is a bit larger than the one originally supplied :-(( but absolutely silent ! Switching power supplies always produce "sound". Usually you can shift the frequency to a band, which cannot be heard by men (e.g. supersonic). But imagine you have a dog or a cat and it flips out and you find out it's your handset charger, which then you cannot hear but your pet... G
Guest meatgrinder Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 lol, interesting theory m8, "dog or a cat and it flips out". this wierdo noise is one which drive sme insane, my pc does it when its turned off, and my monitor does it when its on standby - i could kill it, really drives me mad. after a few years of it tho, i sleep much heavier :) - i can quite easily sleep through the pc noice (on or off) and most alarms :D. i aint sure if thats good or bad :D Dave
Guest DancingMatt Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 The old original SPV's charger did this too. Actually the first charger for an E200 that I had didn't sing, but through the 3 replacement (and all buzzing) phones I've had since I've had new chargers and they do. Arse.

I charge mine via the USB to the PC while sync-ing. Just leave the phone connected to the PC while working and before you know it, the Xphone is fully charged. +++
Guest Bonzo Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 this can be quite a common faulty with switch mode power supplies... yes the do run at very high frequencies which is normally inaudible but what usually causes this problem is the transformer... either the windings have not been laquered correctly during manufacture and are vibrationg at a sympathetic frequency to the power supply or the former on which they are wound is vibrating. Normally this is not an issue with low current applications such as power supplies for phones, monitors, digital cameras etc but can become an issue if left unchecked on high current applications, (power amplifiers etc.), where the supply can pretty much self destruct!!! Overall though I'd say it's nothing to worry about :)
