Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 MobileCommerceWorld are posting a news item regarding Sagem's entry into the Microsoft Smartphone market (Cheers gears!): French communications and defence electronics firm Sagem said on Wednesday it would launch 20 new handsets in Europe this year, including its first Microsoft-powered smartphone. The chief executive of Sagem, which makes everything from camera phones to the electronics in main battle tank turrets, said in an interview with Reuters the company would launch its first phone compatible with high-speed, third-generation (3G) wireless networks in the first quarter of 2005. Sagem will introduce a high-end camera phone in the third quarter of 2004. By the second half of the year about half of its phones would be equipped with cameras, Gregoire Olivier said. This is quite interesting as it confirms rumours that we have been hearing from a number of sources now. Sagem have long had a relationship with Microsoft, most notably for their pioneering precursor to Pocket PC Phone Edition, the WA3050. Sagem, more popular on mainland Europe than in the UK, are renowned for their excellent value products, a market area that is unexploited by the Smartphone OS currently. In addition, Sagem phones feature excellent picture quality from their internal cameras, something that will definitely be welcomed by Smartphone owners! Final thought... Sagem + Smartphone + 3G could be interesting ;-) P

Guest goinnuts Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 if sagem get any better value than the mpx they will end up giving us money and a free digi camera. although thy could take a lesson in design.
