Its a subscribed service, so the program maybe free but the content isnt  but on the bright side they are offering the basic package free for a limited period (but they dont say how long you get free)

Once you've installed m-Vision all you need do is select 'Subscribe Now' from the 'Options' menu of your m-Vision Playlist and follow the on-screen prompts. Please ensure your mobile device is connected to the Internet either through ActiveSync or via a Wireless Internet Connection. Subscribing to any of our packages will enable you to select from a range of content within that package. These content preferences can be changed at any time so long as your mobile device is connected to the Internet.

Our packages can be taken over 3, 6 or 12 month periods. Payment for these packages are made up front and will be renewed automatically at our normal retail prices at the expiry of each subscription period unless the customer makes a cancellation request in writing to [email protected] 7 days prior to the renewal date. Upon the anniversary of your subscription you will be renewed for the same number of months of your original subscription.

GET THE BASIC PACKAGE FREE!

To celebrate the launch of m-Vision on the Smartphone, we're offering the Basic Package FREE when you download m-Vision. But be quick you only have until March 21, 2004! To access your FREE Basic Package content all you have to do is download m-Vision today!

Ok i've tested this as much as i'm prepared to now, so here are my findings:

After waiting ages for it to update my playlist with my selected subscribed services, i gave up and changed my preferences to just one channel, Dance, and reconnected to update. After about 15 mins  it finally completed the playlist update. Unfortunately it did not display any content i had subscribed to! All i had listed was; Free Sample Video, which included Education EV and Malaysia Movie Trailer. Oh well i thought, i clicked the Movie Trailer and to my surprise it had ALREADY downloaded the media  obviously this explains the long time updating the playlist! Playing the trailer, opened Windows Media Player, which played a very low picture quality trailer of the film Hero. WME says its 52Kbps.

The Education EV picture quality was much better (78Kbps) but again was downloaded already :)

After the seeing the picture quality, the shock of it already downloading the content, and the content not being what i subscribed to i have decided that i can not afford the GPRS costs to test this any further!

It seems that the technology isn't quite there yet. How does this compare to the 3G phones that can do the same thing?

I cant seem to launch the app while using a pass through connection :?

EDIT: ok you have to launch the app while disconnected from the PC and once its running reconnect to the PC and it then uses the pass through.

EDIT: right finished testing again, i have some more content now - but alas in my humble opinion its not very good - a rubbish quality Butterfly Effect movie trailer, and i'm sorry but two Phil Collins music videos (why i got these i do not know, as i was subscribed to Dance, New Releases and Top 10 and afaik Phil Collins doesnt come under any of those).

In summary: yes it work with pass through but imho still not worth it due to the content (maybe this will improve in time and on the premium channells).

WARNING: although this appears to be a streaming video services IT IS NOT, when you click Update (which you would assume update the playlist with available media) it actually DOWNLOADS the content! So basically what you see in the main isnt a list of what available to stream but what you have downloaded :?
