hhmm you didnt do much research before asking this did you

Doom SPV was ported by Modaco member MBoden, as he hasnt logged in here since Tue Sep 23, 2003 6:39 am http://www.modaco.com/profile.php?mode=vie...iewprofile&u=80 and his website has been down for ages http://www.bodenhoff.com/Spv

i doubt very much he will "READ THIS"

So therefore i think its pretty safe to assume the answers to your questions are: never and never. Also, never. No

Sorry

Richie was only trying to help!

WHOEVER MADE DOOM

when will you be finishing it with sounds ect

As such, you were appealing directly to the original maker of the game and asking him when he was going to add extras!

So lay off of Richie M!

i think you should all chill out :)

as for new version of Doom, can't see it happening anytime soon really, the game works fine, and that was why it was made (more a case of proove it can be done), and on the mpx200/e200 it seems to run pretty quick already.

also is mpx200 faster than e100?

Yes but mboden has not released his work as far as I know and

yes the mpx200 is much faster than the E100.

Regarding Doom

I have not spoken to the author for a while now but I do know that he

did want to do more work on it.

I know there's not too much point posting this as the creator/holder of source is not available, but I think this is a great port apart from 3 major things:

1- No sound, Doom needs those cool gunshots and grunts!

2- Side-stepping/strafing, can't actually remember if original Doom had this, but an essential feature for dodging fireballs!

3- Save Game!

If someone (anyone!) could make these changes (is the sound just an option within the code??) this would be a rightful contender for best SPV port, behind Rick Dangerous!

It would be great if the sourcecode was public.

This reminds me of the Quake port for Symbian. There was a guy showing screenshots. When I asked him if he is going to release the sourcecode the answer was no. I asked him if he is going to release the binaries ... answer no. And at a later time he sais that he lost the files. Seemed like a hoax to me.

To bad people don't share their code.

Am I right in assuming that reverse-engineering is not an option, since it is already a compiled .exe?

There must be something that can be done, I mean hackers manage to rip code from top applications and open them up...

Why didn't he just leave the sound in, this game holds many good memorys for me, I can improvise pretty well but I get strange looks on the bus...

lol.....no way in reversing such a thing......

you can reverse but not to that huge extent ie adding sound feature and saving game......maybe if sound are disabled permanently you can enable it by cracking but well i dont think so and there is really no hope of seeing that.....

i hope he do it himself or at least release codes....

yeah opensource would be the best option i guess

sound was disabled to get the game running at a decent speed :)

strafing is difficult simply cos of the controls on a mobile phone do not allow it to be implemented easily (pressing fire, while strafing and whil moving using joystick would be a right pain in the neck)

anyways, just mail mboden, ask for the source, or at least ask him to add saving/ sounds (if you really want to slow the game down more)

:)

Yeah, I can understand now, looking at when this was released (SPV, e100 era), but it runs at a very decent speed on my e200, would be prepared to sacrafice a few fps for some Kapow! :D

I think the joystick doesn't work too well for controlling this type of game anyhow, using the PC 'W,S,A,D' method mapped to '2,5,4,6' would work much better, with '*' as fire and joystick for weapon selection (notice how when you get the shotgun, if you change to pistol you can't select it again as 3 is menu key :? ) and use volume for menu open?

anyways, just mail mboden, ask for the source, or at least ask him to add saving/ sounds

Good point, will do now, with my suggestions for control included...
