Guest Ravis Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Anyone seen this one before? It just appeared about 20 mins ago and whatever's happening it's sucking up all my phones CPU cycles (it's REALLY slow). Also incoming calls are getting the "Cannot Answer Call" error. My guess is a software update is being loaded on by my network? Can anyone confirm/deny that?strangeicon.jpg
Guest ferret Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 I think that's a CSD call indication, but I'm usually wrong!
Guest ferret Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Update, just checked manual "Data Call Active" I'd recommend running Task Manager and see what program would be requesting data.
Guest Ravis Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 ...as in my CSD modem is in use? What would cause that (other then of course me activating it, which I haven't (at least purposly))? :-)
Guest Ravis Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 ....hmmm... where the hell is my manual when I need it?? Thanks for the incredibly fast help. :-D Will attempt to run Task Manager (but its SOOOOO slow)...
Guest ferret Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 ....hmmm... where the hell is my manual when I need it?? Go to www.orange.co.uk click on your phone then download user manual. It's in pdf format. That's what I usually do!
Guest Ravis Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 I'd recommend running Task Manager and see what program would be requesting data. Nothing odd here so far as I can see: tmail.exe SurrealStart pTAmgr.exe (pTravelAlarm) xbar.exe Explorer.exe SPTaskMgr
Guest ferret Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 How odd, I'm afraid I don't know what's wrong. Strange how it slowed your phone too. We could go down the conspiracy theory route of phones phoning home with private details blah blah .......... but I doubt it.
Guest Ravis Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 Ok, icon is still there, but phone suddenly got a LOT faster. Actually, it's faster than I've seen it in a long time. This is getting weirder by the minute :-)
Guest moo_ski_doo Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 That is the symbol you get when you connect to the internet through your phone (use your phone as a modem.) It usually disappears when you disconnect tho...
Guest zeta101 Posted February 28, 2004 Report Posted February 28, 2004 thats wap isnt it, like moo said, its connecting to the net via dialup, so something is trying to connect to the net maybe to get email and in your settings youve got it to use wap instead of gprs...
Guest Ravis Posted February 29, 2004 Report Posted February 29, 2004 thats wap isnt it, like moo said, its connecting to the net via dialup, so something is trying to connect to the net maybe to get email and in your settings youve got it to use wap instead of gprs... Except that I don't have a CSD connection setup on my phone. Everything runs through GPRS (wap too). I DID install and use Smartphone Studio. I tried rebooting several times while my phone was slowed to a crawl, to no effect (either on speed or the icon). I left it for awhile and it seemed to have finished whatever it was doing, and sped up again. I rebooted again, just for the heck of it, and the icon is now gone.... Perhaps it was the CommMan software. Will test again....
Guest jmcglynn Posted March 3, 2004 Report Posted March 3, 2004 sorry to go off thread, but does that mean I can use dial-up instead of GPRS to download e-mails ?
