Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! Hi everybody... I've got a small problem with removing one my skins. I had xpv2 theme installed and when I tried to remove it from the programs list it just said that it cannot be removed... It wasn't running and I wasn't using any element from that skin at the moment. Restarting didn't help either... Is there something in the registry that could help? Or another way to remove this theme generator's skin?
Guest drblow Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Did you delete any of the files form your home folder?
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! No I didn't... But after trying to remove it sometimes with the normal procedure (from the remove programs list), I tried to do it manually by removing the files of the skin one by one... Now it has been removed from the Home Screen's menus but I can't get it out of the Remove Programs list! I guess that must be a reg key that needs to be erased or a certain file from somewhere else? It happened again a couple of times but due to hard resets that had to be done for other reasons, that one cleared also... But what now?
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 I think the reason it still appears in Add / Remove Programs is because the .tmp files are still in IPSM(or Storage)/Windows/App Mgr. You'll find a folder in here for things you've installed. For some reason they aren't removed when you uninstall, but you can delete them yourself.
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! I have already removed that .tmp file but it's still in the list no matter if I restart the phone... :)
Guest kjk Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 check registry HKLM/Security/Appinstall/ in there have you a regitry key for all install app try to delete registry key for app you have problem with be careful don't delete keys of app you still have on your phone
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! Damn!!! ...Unable to perform this operation!!! Wtf is happening?
Guest kjk Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! Damn!!! ...Unable to perform this operation!!! Wtf is happening? Reboot your phone and try again i don't know why you can't delet this. deleting of these keys remove app from add/remove list Have you tried to install and uninstall skin again???? :?:
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! It can't be re installed either... And even after a reboot it keeps telling me that it is unable to perform anything on that key! Noone ever came by such a situation? What could I have done to end up with such stubborn skins?
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Have you got anything in the folder IPSM(or Storage)/Windows/App Mgr/Install ? If so, delete it. That can cause problems installing things.
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! Install folder is empty... Not even hidden folders exist!
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 It's looking like a hard reset is all that will shift it :) ....unless you can contact the skin author who might have some ideas ?
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! I guess I'll have to wait for the rom update from Qtek in a month or so... It doesn't cause me any troubles as I can tell but it's pissing me of that it cannot be removed!
Guest kjk Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! Install folder is empty... Not even hidden folders exist! you have to use explorer on your phone not computer and don't delete files of app you still have installed on your phone
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! Of course I'm using the explorer in my phone... But the thing is that by now I have already deleted all other files from that skin. And the install folder never had anything inside...
Guest kjk Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! Of course I'm using the explorer in my phone... AppMgr folder must have a folder for all install app if you don't have any thing in there that's way you have problem and i'm afair you have to do a hard reset to fix problem
Guest iliant Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 No,no... Appmgr folder is full allright... I was talkin 'bout the install folder inside Appmgr..
Guest cougal96 Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 i had exactly the same problem however i could not uninstall anything!!! the only way to fix it is a hard reset matey!! a bugger but it fixes it! i think it is because in IPSM/MAPI there are uninstall files, because i used to delete files in MAPI regualry and these problems arise, however since hard reset i have never deleted any files in MAPI and now i can uninstall items at free will!!! any1 else have any ideas on the MAPI folder? what are the files in there? Other than a hard reset though (as far am im aware :) ) there aint nuthin u can do :D
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Surely the MAPI folder only contains your SMS & attachments etc ? I don't think it has anything to do with installations. Hard reset can be tricky and you need to application unlock afterwards but the benefits of having a nice clean, faster phone make it worthwhile. Just remember to back-up as much as you can first.
Guest iliant Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Posted from my SmartPhone! MAPI folder is empty, and I never deleted anything from there... Anyway I believe that this is a bug or something inside the installation/uninsuallation of the phone. It messes up I believe when an app gets inside the system deeply and changes a lot of things like a skin. The only way that I find possible right now is a Hard Reset like you all said and picking of a couple of skins you like and not changing of them every now and then...
Guest kjk Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 best way to fix your phone is hard reset and MAPI folder nothing to do with this. best to delete every thing in MAPI folder. this just eating your memory eveytime you sende/resieve a sms/mms ect so i t's store a file in mapi if you don't have eney mms/sms ect on your phone so just delete every thing in your mapi idelete MAPI folder almost every day and nothing have problem with install/uninstall of app
Guest iliant Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Posted from my Smart iliPhone! The only thing that bothers me with having to do a Hard Reset is that I have already done 3 Hard Resets and every time the same thing happens with one of the skins... Could this be a bug related only to the current rom version of my Qtek 8080 and there are no problems with spve200 rom versions from... Orange let's say?
