Guest cheekymonkey Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Leaving work I made a call, then walked to the car with the mpx in my hand. I opened the phone in the car to find it with a black screen. I then tried to turn it on but it became hung at start up. 'What the hell?' I'm thinking as repeatedly I try to get the phone to start up. Upon getting home I eventually got it to boot properly, with a combination of leaving it be and a load of random button pressing. Anyways, looking through the phone now, here's what I find: Every setting is wiped - default orange screens instead of the original ones that I had reghacked back to. It seems that every reg setting is back to original settings, although the time and regional settings are still correct. All my data (contacts, calendar, tasks etc) is still there. All files I put on it, sounds, pics etc are still there. All programs are still there but, as the registry has been deleted / reset, things like reg codes are now gone. Here is my thinking: in my hand the crappy volume button must have been depressed for some time... resetting the entire registry! Anyone got any ideas?
Guest ferret Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 It happens, I think they just get bored and decided to do a partial reset.
Guest cheekymonkey Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 mmmm Sophie :) :D Looks like I gotta hard reset as all the apps I'm trying to re-install to get the phone to at least acknowledge them can't be installed as there is no room. The OS doesn't know they're there already so can't remove or reinstall over the top. Bummer.
Guest stevewright Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 I had this when I installed a beta plugin ages ago. Partial reset. You're stuff is still there, but registry and settings a knackered. Hard reset required I'm afraid.
Guest cheekymonkey Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Just hard reset, and am flying now... thank gawd. As a point of interest I installed oxios's task plugin a couple of days ago, and things have been a little unresponsive / flaky since. Coincidence probably (?) but it ain't going back on.
Guest Pigo Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 huh.... you got off lucky... my MPx did the same thing but I tried rebooting it. and I went from bad to hopeless!!!! sudely my phone did a reset so bad that it doesn't even have a file manager anymore. and it's suddely software locked!?!?!?!?! can anyone help me get it the way it was when I bougth it???
Guest cheekymonkey Posted March 2, 2004 Report Posted March 2, 2004 Ya need to hard reset fella. Luckily I managed to get it to a useable state so I could hard reset. I reckon your reg has been corrupted as mine was... so a hard reset may be the only option. Once the phone was restored to its original state I had to app unlock, apply all the tweaks and hacks. Then the activesync partnership had to be deleted so I could sync once more and reinstall everything. Good look fella.
Guest Pigo Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 I did do a harrd reset... and that's why everything is clean now but missing a lot of components... I online have 2 pages in the "programs" menu.... I used to have three when I bought it. But I think I just app unlocked it so I'll see what I can do now.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 4, 2004 Report Posted March 4, 2004 Partial resets can happen for various reasons from low battery to dodgy xml. What will happen is as listed above your homescreen etc reverts back and certain settings are returned to default including application lock being re-enabled on the Orange phones. You can carry on running the phone as normal to an extent but the best advice is to do a Hard Reset (sooner rather than later)
