17-digits IMEI workaround...

still don't know why my phone's IMEI became 17-digits when i open-lined and upgraded it to qtek rom... :roll:

anyways, to claim my warranty (re-claim is the right word, i guess), the workaround i did was this;

first thing is to downgrade my BL (my thanks goes to pyke) to .93... BL .98 and below will do...

still got a 17-digits IMEI... :evil:

then the next thing is to downgrade my rom to smart 1.3.7.8 (still, SMART)... i wanted first to try the 1.6.0.08 but changed my mind to 1.3.7.8... good thing i tried this! my unit still has a .97 BL... much easier to upgrade back to qtek...

then tried to see my IMEI (by pressing *#06#)... and voila!!! my IMEI reverted back to 15-digits... :D :) 8) :D

@pzee

ayos ba panyero? :D

@Lopio

nag-try lang din ako kung magwo-work nga yun... naaasar na rin naman kasi ko pag nakikita ko yung kupas na callkeys at lubog na softkeys ko... :)

buti naman nag-work nga yung solution ko...

@chibako

ehehehe... sabi sa iyo simple lang e... medyo matagal nga lang kasi re-flashing na naman ng rom... pero at least may solution di ba? :D

I don't understand the relevance of this, or the necessety?

Did you notice what the numbers were of the 17 and 15 IMEI?

As something I did notice when I registered my E200 to Orange was, on the phone' s box/packaging the IMEI is shown as 15 digits, and when querying the phone with *#06# the IMEI is the same as the one on the box just with two extra digits on the end.

So are both the code's you got the same with the longer one just having two extra digits at the end?

okay... here's how it goes...

some of us SAP users here in the Philippines, experienced to have that occurrence of having a 17-digits IMEI when we open-lined our unit and having it upgraded to qtek rom... we don't know why it happened...

then after using it with the sim of other network provider here, i've noticed that it now has a 17-digits IMEI... but after checking the digits, it still has the same FIRST 15-digits that matched the IMEI on its back cover... the 16th and 17th digits has 1 and 0 value...

weird??? but i know that some will attest to it...

the reason why i did this workaround thingy, like i said from above, is to avail of the warranty of my unit... :)

so i guess it has relevance...

It might be that the last 2 digits were 'verifier' digits which is hidden in the normal rom. like in barcoding of store products, there's this last digit that is added so as to verify if the barcode has followed the rules of the company that produced them. if the last digit does not verify the previous digits, then that barcode is a fake.

might be the case... for security purposes???

@ all,

Check this out IMEI Analyzer.

It does not accept IMEI numbers more than 15. What gives with the 17 numbers?

Just my thoughts.

@ all,

i already posted that link HERE...

probably beacuse all of the phones IMEI have only 15-digits... that's why i was wondering why it happened to me and to others who experienced to have a 17-digits IMEI on our phone...

I worked with URC before, yeah the added digit was for security purposes. actually there was a formula on that like the 1st digit multiplied by the 2nd digit less the 3rd digit, just for an example.
