Hi Guys,

I run the Dutch Smartphone-Club (Netherlands) and as you might know the Dutch telecom provider KPN is going to introduce the SW VOQ soon in the Netherlands.

They gave me a test sample. You can find some pictures here: http://www.pocketpc-club.nl/forum/showthre...&threadid=28445 .

(note: you have to register yourself to see the thread).

Any questions? Shoot! I'll answer them here in English and on my own forums in Dutch :)

I am going to write a review this weekend about the phone and also about the extra features like VoqMail. You can translate that review trough babblefish or something.. i'll post the link when it's up there :D

can you post a picture of it next to an e200? so i can see the size difference, i've heard this is a big phone!

also, is it windows mobile 2002? or 2003? and does it have bluetooth?

thanks :)

Christ thats big. Pretty damn ugly too. Looks like you could drop it off a cliff and it would survive! Fold out keyboard's a nice idea though.

I'm here to serve :D

It runs 2003 and does not have bluetooth. Although the software in the phone has a "turn on bluetooth" option, below it says that there is no bluetooth hardware.

Here is the picture next to the E200:

I heard the police are going to carry one of those instead of a truncheon and pepper spray! :)

They can put their weapons in the "flip-over weapons cabinet" :D.

I must admit it's quite big but when i hold it in my hans it feels very nice. Hm, that sounds strange :)

But seriously, the size of the VOQ isn't to bad if you cary it as your main device. The keyboard is a nice feature of this device and probably the major selling point of this device.

I know that, since this is a preproduction model, the final models that will go to the consumers will be better looking.

Does it have a built-in camera

I really see no reason why Voq will ship 1 single copy of this phone. It seems to do everything worse than every other MS Smartphone.

It does not have a built in camera. This is really a phone for business people. The great features are the pushmail functionality and the qwerty keyboard.

I'm curious how KPN Holland is going to market this device and service to the consumers/business.

god bless we all with this one......an antique to show your kids and wife to use the same to break your head.if there was a mouse input it would have been nice as my desktop.

how can a company think of launching a product like this one with no camera or bluetooth and a size bigger then xda2 for that to corporate crowd...Or they think them to the dumbest of the intelectuals around..

i am sure it must be priced 800 dollars...

waiting for one...please ask company to home deliver it...or i can send my truck...

I'm glad to see they've improved the external keypad compared to the even earlier pre-production sample I used!

No Bluetooth? No Camera? The Motorola MPX-200 would be a bigger deal I think, and its thousand times better-looking.

The size of a PDA, with the functionality of a smartphone.

Voq are on to a winner!

It's a bit big, but this keyboard will have some appeal methinks sierra_wireless_voq_02.jpg

2 things:

1) could you make some screenshots and test of Java that is included in the Voq?

2) I was playing with Voq phone too (when interviewing top manager of Sierra Wireless for europe) and he showed me this:

... could you check this "myVoq" in bigger details what it can do - what it can search, etc?

"pushmail" is a lie - see my upcoming interview with Sierra - in realit it is is "inteligent poll" that uses low bandwidth - do'h!

BTW: business people without Bluetooth? on which planet?

thanks for replying. i cant see a place for this phone in shops... with no bluetooth and camera. not many people want a phone without these as part of it. ok, it has a full qwerty keyboard, but it just means more buttons to jam and break :) i think i'm one of the only people to actually like the design of the phone. i love the button designs, especially around the joystick, and the colours are great! if only it was alot smaller! i dont want a big phone anymore, the e200 is a nice size i guess, whilst my p900 is on the big side!

Hi, sorry I don't have time right now to make screenshots :) I'll try to in the next couple of days though.

Yes, the MyVOQ. That's going to be a part of my review. Stay tuned.

Sure, but I can imagine (or not if I compare this to the E200) that some consumers will buy it because of the keyboard.

Anyway, there has to be a certain marketing to it to sell it to the business.

Yep, you're right, it's polling.

The fact that there is no Bluetooth in it is not a good thing. Specially for a smartphone in which you would expect features like that. I can only agree with you on that point.

kpn have stated this phone will be only for the business client to start off with and that they have no plans to offer it to the normal client ( this is stated in a press release and on wouters own site), thats not to say they wont do that when the next moto comes out, or through bad sales .Also Dutch members here do not have to go to smartphone.nl to talk about the phone you can stay here and use our dutch forum ,also this is free and you are not asked to donate for a server as the other site wants you to do stay on the best modaco:wink:
