Aeroplane mode problem

Help!

my e100 is stuck with aeroplane mode on, (signal off) and i cant turnit off..

when i switch it on it gives me a message saying 'The telephone is in aeroplane mode. Turn off aeroplane mode and try again'

the title bar says 'SIM Failure'

and i can only click 'done' with the left sof key, but the screen doesnt actually change, the only thing i can do is hold the power button till it turns off.

oh, i can also type numbers in, but for no apparent reason, a box appears with them in at the bottom and then disappears when i click done.

though, if i wait till its just got onto the homescreen after powering up, then immedietly bring up the quick menu, and press 4, it then gives me a message saying 'Airplane mode could not be turned off. Try again?' if i click yes, it just repeats, and if i click no it just remains at the homescreen as normal, but without signal.

oh, i haven't done a hard reset yet, i dont want to if it can be avoided..

maybe you've no other choice now but to do it...

well, doing a hard reset didnt work..so i reinstalled the rom upgrade (1.6 i think) and that sorted it out.

reinstalling the rom seems to be solving an increasing number of faults with the e100 for some reason.

I reinstalled the 1.6 update after i lost the network on my phone for no apparent reason

i noticed that the newer rom version doesnt allow you to change rom that easy anymore. my smart 1.7 rom wont allow me to changwe to orange 1.6 for example.
