Guest DeFacto Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Well this is the first message I've posted on the board, which I have to say, has been very helpful in choosing a new phone these past few weeks. Alright, here's a little background information. I'm currently with orange, my 12month contract expired last month and I'm looking to upgrade to a smartphone. After a some research and asking around I narrowed my search down to 3 phones; the 6600, SPV e200 and the MPx200. I've decided on the SPV as it is, in my opinion, the most versatile and feature rich of the 3. I phoned orange shop last week, ready to place my order, but was told that if I waited untill march 15th, the SPV would be cheaper to upgrade to [from £130 now to £60 after the 15th] so I'm basically just waiting to order. I had heard about the poor battery life and checked out the posts about overcoming [well, reducing] the battery drain but over the last few days I've been somewhat less keen the SPV because of this. I just wanted to get an idea of how often I would need to charge the phone. I would consider myself a moderate user, sending a few texts, making/receiving around 5 phonecalls per day, browsing the net for about 10mins, occasional use of the camera and bluetooth. Also, it would be helpful if you could give me an average standby time for your phone, with a brief rundown of how you've used it.
Guest Terrapin Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 Every day. I use my e200 almost exactly as you describe and it needs to be charged every night. If you remove the caller ID app you'll have more charge left at the end of the day but it will still have to be charged every night. I have yet to try removing the SD card because i see little point in having an e200 if i can't keep my SD card in it. I never use bluetooth which i guess also helps. I used mine quite a lot yesterday, probably 30 mins worth of calls, 10 texts, 2 picture messages and 15 mins surfing and after a 9am - 2am day it had 6% charge left. Hope that helps.
Guest Toyota-F1.com Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 DeFacto - good choice the SPV3 - not that I'm biased or anything  Check your Private Message
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 6, 2004 Report Posted March 6, 2004 i've had my E200 for 2 weeks now, i use Beersoft's battery monitor to check my battery status. I currently don't use the caller id but haven't turned it off. I have an Intergal 128mb card allways in. I make a couple of short calls a day, receive a couple of calls, the odd text message, mess around with the camera/video now and then, occasionally show droolong mates videos and tried out BT send receive with an N-gage(worked). BT is generally off. It plays about 1-1.5 mins of wav from the card as my alarm every morning. I ensure I drain it to below 10% before I recharge overnight, normally from about 23.00 to 07.30. To sum up I'd say it's light use, and I get on average.............2.5 - 3 DAYS!!! Ok, when i use it more, it's like my original SPV, about 2 days. Currently 79%... running 15h 55mins time left 2d 12h 52mins total 3d 4h 47mins I'm pleased
Guest DeFacto Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Thanks for the replies guys. Would there be any damaging effect to the battery if you were to charge it up every night? The previous phone I had [3310 :)] used to go dead halfway through a phone conversation even if it had been given a full charge the night before; leading me to think the battery had just deteriorated over time. Toyota - Everytime I worry about the SPV and try to check out other phones, I end up finding the SPV far superior than most available atm. Dave, 2.5/3 days is quite great compared to some other reviews of the battery life I've read. Is it possible to connect the spv to the pc, browse internet sites on the pc's broadband connection, then make the sites available offline on the spv for future reading?
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 it's an average stanby, I don't generally use my phone a lot so stanby is generally quite good
Guest Baddass Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 ive been getting some really good standby time on my SPV since ive had it........when i first got it i gave it a massive 24hr charge.........then drained it totally (to the point where it turns off) and then gave it another 24hr charge.........this battery conditioning is recommended by orange to help maximise battery use. seems to be ok, i ahve ti turned on all day, not using it as much as i would normally atm, but a few texts, couple of calls, video clips, general fiddling round with it. have Caller ID on, have SD card in, but BT turned off.......pretty impressed with it after reading so much on here about bad battery life.........hopefully will be even better with the update :)
Guest DeFacto Posted March 9, 2004 Report Posted March 9, 2004 One last thing, would it be possible to use an XD card instead of a SD in the SPV3
