Guest IronHide Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Hi all, Please bear with me as I am still a newbie regarding my Xphone and smartphones in general. I have the Chinese version (in the US) of the Xphone and am wondering if it would be possible to install other manufactuer's updates to this phone? As I understand it, the E200, I-Mate Smartphone 2, Qtek 8080, and Xphone are all the same HTC hardware with individually customized software...so, one would think you could indeed do this, right? I'm not saying it would be wise, as doing so might sim and/or application lock a previously unlocked phone, but for some reason, I feel as if O2 might not be the best at releasing updates, thus I'm just looking for options. Any experience/information is most appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Guest nedge2k Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 I cant see why it wouldnt be possible. Has worked with SP2002 models fine. Although there's no point at the moment. Your phone has one of the better ROMs. The Orange is terrible and we are waiting for the update to make it as good as the XPhone/Qtek. As for O2 releasing updates, check if they've released them for the XDA. If they have, the chances are that eventually make one for XPhone. At the moment all the HTC Voyager phones (except E200) run fine and without too many bugs so updates aren't likely for a while. Hope this helps.
Guest IronHide Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 Hi nedge2k, Yes, it does help. I agree that it would be kind of pointless to use any current updates, but was unaware that the Orange-branded phones were so buggy. Thanks for the info!
