Now that I've got a 256 meg SD card, I've just got round to putting some music on the SPV.

I heard that WMA files were the way to go and that they take up about half the size of mp3, so I converted my collection from MP3 128kbps to WMA at 64 kbps.

Whoever reckons they sound the same must have a bit too much ear wax IMO. At 64kbps the stereo field is squashed and the highs sound noticably synthetic. I'll stick with the mp3 format for now.

80-96kb/s is generally reckoned to sound the same as 128kb mp3.

I can't notice much of a difference, except on Coldplay - In My Place, where the compression seems to distort the cymbals somewhat.
