Guest lister7474 Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 I have tried to get this to work but as yet have had no luck; Windows Media encoder (free from microsoft.com) has the ability to stream a live feed over the internet - you could then recieve it over GPRS. This could be useful if you have broadband, you could check up on your house if you go away, or set it up to stream TV or radio or whatever... Anyone know how to get this to work, or is there a specific reason why you can't? It would be class..........
Guest siu99spj Posted March 10, 2004 Report Posted March 10, 2004 Receiving any streaming video over GPRS is extremely unlikely. GPRS just doesn't have the bandwidth. You'd also need a webstreaming server setup, for either your PC to upload to continuously or for your PC to be a webserver. Can't tell you too much about doing that, but if you do a dial-up connection (ADSL or analogue) you're pretty much out of luck. Someone else might be a better expert on webstreaming. You also need to make sure you use the right version of Windows encoder, 7 for all 2002 devices and 9 for all 2003 devices. A simpler option would be to get your PC to E-Mail your phone a picture every half hour or so, but thats not as smarmy as webstreaming of course.
Guest schriss Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 I tried media streaming with my Nokia 7650, I used RealOne player on the phone and Helix encoder on PC. I tried to make it work over bluetooth, I "almost" got it working, but bandwidth was a limitation. Some time later I sold my 7650 :D In case of Smartphone, I'd first find correct settings for Media Encoder, so I'd be able to play the encoded file from SD card. Then I'd make it work over the craddle (should work very nice!). Then it would be time for GPRS, but I don't think it's going to work ;)
Guest jarm Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I have managed to stream media over bluetooth activesync connection from media encoder, audio as well as video files. Audio quality falls somewhere between am and fm radio. Fawlty towers video is watchable at lower bandwidth settings.
Guest jarm Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 as soon as i get chance will post step by step guide.Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest yoos Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 look here... this what you're looking for? http://www.msmobilenews.com/?cid=272
Guest jarm Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Alternatively download a copy of Microsoft Portrait for Smartphone and one for your PC. The PC version can be made to start on boot up automatically, then all you do is connect over GPRS and the view from the connected webcam is sent to your phone along with audio. The program is designed to work over low bandwidth connections and is jerky but usable.
