exchange 2000 and MMIS 2002 compatibility with 2003

just got my copy and will be setting it up this weekend. anyone know if a smartphone running mobile 2003 will activesync with MMIS 2002? i wouldnt think there would be issues but microsoft states MMIS will not be updated to support future phones - just wondering if they put in a 'feature' that will prevent 2003 phones working with MMIS 2002.
