Unable to create some registry keys

Folks,

Couple of questions on registry editing:

- Is there an alternative to PHM regedit on teh device? My issue with it is that it crashes my sm2003 if I do a search throughout the registry (managed to hard reset the machine this way  ). Anyone noticed that too.

- It seems that some areas of the registry are protected. I was trying to create a key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINECommTcpipHosts. Using either PHM or remote regedit from 2003 SDK, I always get an error message stating that a key cannot be created. I can create keys in other areas though.

Any hint?

The reason I want to create that key is in troubleshooting a particular app on my smartphone, which cannot seem to connect to its server (infowave SymmetryPro).

C.

certain registry keys are protected and for applications to gain access to these or alter them they need to be signed by a priviledged certificate.

For development purposes you can create certificates using spdps and provision them to your device (its in the tools folder inthe SDK)

Any certificates available that could be used to do that (quick and dirty approach). I have not used the SDK for dev purposes

I can confirm that PHM search function does crash the e200 (pull battery out job to fix). Bit of a pain really when looking for interesting keys to change!

I don't think there are any avaialbe, spdps creates the certifacte and provisions it to your device. You would need an Orange certificate and they are like hens teeth.

I actually have an imate device, so it is not locked by Orange.

In terms of installing a certificate for development, I guess I would have to craete an xml description of it. How do I tie that to unprotecting the registry? probably a silly question, but am not a windows developer.

Indeed it does crash, that horrible thing of a PHM registry editor, when searching.

Is there a way just to look at the registry offline? I bet a lot of gems are hidden in there somewhere.
