Guest Taoski Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Just seen this mentioned on http://bink.nu and thought it news worthy. There's no doubt that Microsoft is going to release a very significant upgrade to Windows Mobile this year. However, it isn't known exactly how this is going to be presented. At Microsoft's Professional Development Conference in October, a presenter in one session mentioned the need for Pocket PC developers to add support for VGA (640 by 480 pixels) to their applications. He also said there will be support for both portrait and landscape modes added to the operating system. In addition, the version of this operating system for smart phones will get support for QVGA (320 by 240 pixels), the resolution used by almost all Pocket PCs now. Microsoft spokespeople are quite willing to talk about these changes, and will even point out that the Motorola MPx, which was announced late last month, will use a new version of Windows Mobile to switch between portrait and landscape on the fly. What they aren't willing to talk about is what this upgrade will be called. Guest squall Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 To clarify this. MPx will use the windows mobile os, not the smartphone OS. This article is not talking about a possible new smartphone os release. Regarding the smartphone 2003 there are rumours about a possible release this year, however i think this is unlikely as smartphone 2003 has not been out for long. Regards Ian NEWSHOUND :)
Guest squall Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 the kind a reputable newshound ie myself wouldn't post without confirming :) seriously tho i don't think there will be one
Guest morpheus2702 Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Purely commenting on how MS name their OS's, they should really do away with this 2002 - 2003 nonsense. Not much point in releasing WM2003 for Smartphone in November 2003 when it will be out of date in a month? Windows SM anyone?
Guest [email protected] Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Actually I think the year is one of the better ways of naming an OS, compared to Millennium Edition and XP. The best way I think is a simple release number like it used to be, 3.1, 3.11.
