Can I use Orange Care to get a p900 for my E200?

Hows that for a descriptive topic?

Points:

*I spend on average £100 a month

*Had my e200 replaced once already due to buzzing.

*Second one is the same

Basically I want a p900 and im gonna threaten (and mean it) them with cutting my contract to a data one (£7ish) service plan as soon as my 4 months are up - i upgraded last month.

Any ideas on whether ill be successful or any tips please?

give it a go, trouble is you cant all out cancel your contract as your only four months in.

I know O are offering to replace mpx200 with e200's, but not with p900's so you could be struggling.

all you can do is ask :)

You can't change to the data contract (£10/month it is) unless you have a phone with HSCSD which the E200 is not. Unless you're lucky (like I was second time) with the attendant you get. But you won't be able to use it as a threat.

Also, would I be able to get a P900 with Orange Care for my E100? Or an M1000 perhaps ... the list goes on!

well just off the phone to them, and i surprised myself - i got agitated.

Basically, i kept getting palmed off to tech support. so i got a bit pissed and demanded putting through to cancellations

got told id have to pay line rental off for the contract, and i told them to put me through anyway.

Bloke in "customer relations" told me there was no way to swap handsets unless it was the 3rd phone which had the same fault.

I explained that I could be almost certain the next phone will be the same, but he wasnt having any of it - but he was helpful. He said the replacement handsets were nokia 6600 nokia 7250i (Riiiiiiiiiiiiight) and the handspring treo thingy.

I said that was crap and the only thing close to the e200 was the p900. He agreed but said it would be difficult to swap to that, but it depends on the supervisor.

The bloke was helpful though, got a e200 sent out tomorrow, and he also switched my contract from Yourplan 400 to o2 400 - its cheaper and better lol.

So yeah, it might be possible, but its doubtful. I wouldnt mind paying ( a small amount) to change to the p900 , but that doesnt seem an option either :)

thoughts?

(Ive got a feeling ill be phoning orange tomorrow to moan on till i get a p900)

its the only thing close to the e200

Mark - you are paying £100 a month on average?

That's £1200 a year to Orange! You've paid off the handset subsidy and they are making serious money from you.

I think when you speak to a supervisor next time, you should make this a bit more apparent (i.e. blatant) that you are the type of customer that Orange likes and that there will be some serious questions asked if you up and leave.

Sir wants a P900? Sir will have a P900!

Without a doubt you should state and get it through to Orange how much you are spending a month.I know its not always easy but try and be calm and polite it can go a long way and get a supervisor on the phone, explain your situation and how much Orange should be trying to keep your custom. If they don't pull out all the stops for someone whos got useage of £100 per month then you might be better off with someone else.....

I'm in the same boat as you mark, and have had 4 replacement e200's. I have managed to get orange to replace my e2 with a p9, but am still waiting as they are out of stock in the upgrade dept.

I had to take out another 12 month contract and get the p9 as an upgrade. Amazingly i will be able to keep the e2 as it is an upgrade ( makes me suspicious of whats about to hit the shelves if they don't want it back, or its just too riddled with problems )

You will find that you will definitely have to go through the process of replacements to get to the different model option, and then try to argue the case that the options they are offering are not equivalent. Although the model options have improved since i was doing this. I was offered an e100, mpx200 or the treo.

basically the people on the front line at customer services are tied into the system and can only offer what the system says. you'll need to escalate your concerns to a higher power. Don't even bother writing to orange at the address you'l be given from 150, they will simply reply with orange policy and you'll have wasted your time. They lost my letter apparently.

this whole torturous process has taken 4 months so far and i don't have the p9 in my hand yet. you could try adressing a letter to the head office and the MD, not sure of the address, but it must be possible to find it out.

I managed to get a good line of inquiry, but do't have the number anymore, sorry.

I did have a whole host of other problems too, including keypad and joystick problems on top of the buzzing noise.( in all 5 ) plus failed deliveries, cancelled tech support actions, supervisors saying they would call back and not doing so etc etc. you must remain polite and calm no matter how agitated you are or any help someone could offer will vanish.

thanks for the excellent advice guys!

Just though I'd mention - I still have my e100 - won from this very site, and continue to love the windows mobile platform, but I need a phone I can use :)

Frankly, the replacement phones offered - 2 nokia's or a handspring treo are nowhere near as good as the e200.

Orange have told me that the p900 is classed as a higher-spec fone. I also disagree with that, but its the closest to the E200.

£100 is probably my minimum a month   I have a real problem with phones. and very soon ill be dropping my contract right down, but ill not tell orange that!

Basically as I said before, Im gonna tell them its there choice. Right now they get £100 a month minimum, or they can get £14.99 a month max on the cheapest contract possible - and the only phone I will accept is a p900

OMG!

I was hoping to swap my vanilla SPV for a P900 at contract expiry time soon...

Looks like i might not get it - seeing as i hardly do many calls.

Maybe i will just cancel this contract with O and get a new one with them from a shop where the handset is free!

A bit like you do with your car insurance. Cancel the contract and then take it back out with the same company for a better price!

Madness.

Just one thing to note, if your primary e200 problem is the buzzing. This IS fixed in the rom update which we should hopefully be seeing sooner rather than later.

Changing handsets will not fix the buzzing issue since it's a software issue.

YEAH i know, and i told them that, but they wouldnt have it - theyve made me replace it 3 times

and yeah its fixed... but... to be honest I've had enough.

Ill stick with my E100 n hopefully a p900

right, been on to orange again, for around an hour.

Basically, I asked for customer relations, but they didnt seem to wanna know and put me through to handset faults, who actually admitted its a software fault and they are all the same - a first? She also said no one could over-rule the DMR - different model replacement - not even the MD...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

I was offered one phone - a 7250i, to which I said no thanks, ill leave it for now!

Phoned back and again asked for customer relations. The guy wanted to know why, so I told him, and he actually said their is no comparison between the e200 and a nokia 7250i lol.

So eventually he said he'd just put me through by saying I wanted to cancel. The guy in cancellations was really helpful, but still couldnt help me get a p900. He said the p900 is a high-spec phone whereas the e200 is a medium-spec. He did agree that the only phone close to the e200 would be the p900 in terms of features.

He did say there was no way he could do the p900, but he understands the complaint is genuine and although against the "rules" hes given me the address of the exectutive office, fax number and telephone number. He said this is the only way I've got a chance of getting a p900, otherwise ring him back and he'll put me on £15 a month (lowest contract) and i can say bye bye orange.

Its up to the exectutive office really. yeah, maybe they will lose a bit on giving me a p900, but look....

either £15 a month.... £170 for the year

or £100 a month.... £1200 for the year.

over a grand difference.

Anyway, im crap at letters - and he advised me to fax them. So any help PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

i'd phone them if i was you. that's the people i talked to. they will ask you how you got the number, i'd just tell them. its probably best not to say that others have got this deal, as i'm sure they will be more sympathetic if you don't sound like you are jumping on a came wagon. just explain all the problems you have had and how the dmr's on offer are not suitable to your needs. stressing the money you spend is also good. thats similar to my spend and i've been with them 6 years. calmly tell them you are at your wits end and the phone problems are affecting your work, clients you can't understand, bluetooth problems with headsets etc. there is plenty of fuel for your argument in this section. they are still out of stock, so don't expect a quick swap. good luck. thanks mate :)

Ive been with them about 5 years if you include PAY AS YOU GO as well.

I'm not a business man - i spend that money on personal calls :S

I think ill fax them so I can explain the problems clearer, but also ring them too.

Did they give you a date for when youd get your replacement?

no, just waiting for one to come into stock. no eta on when, i rang today. they are just looking daily to nab one when it comes in. the shops are low on them too. i'm not a business man either i'm a builder. but i use the phone for work, sending pictures to district surveyors and the boss, email etc. they are much more helpful than the operators and can override the system a bit. Orange's Different Model Replacement (DMR's) can change weekly.....

After 3 same faults, or 1 fault if you spend over £100 per month for the last 6-12 months, they can offer you 1 of 3 other handsets.

Currently the DMR's for the E200 are:-

7250i

NK6600

Handspring Treo 600

They always try to get you to take the first handset (because it's cheaper for them) but if you refuse it moves to the next.

I'm in the same boat, I've had 3 faults the same, and I'm basically waiting for the E200 DMR's to change to a P900 (in all honesty I'm a stinggy sod and only spend about £15 a month, but I'm thinking if I'm going to get a different model replacement it might as well be the dog's B****ck's!)

The P900 was actually a DMR for the E200 (about 2/3 months ago) but apparently it changed due to low P900 stock levels.

I keep checking every week, if/when it changes to a P900 I'll post a reply to let you know.

Could this out of stock P900 mean that something new is coming? (Sorry if I'm going a bit OT.)

I've heard no rumours about a Sony Ericcson successor to the P900 so I doubt it (then again, I've hardly got my finger on the pulse of Sony Ericcson products!). I doubt the product has been out long enough and a mate of mine still has the P800 and raves about it!

I had to wait a while before I got my P900 as well - took about 3-4 weeks before one came into Orange. The way it worked for me was that the upgrade was being handled by one particular member of staff who would be allocated say 4 phones about every 2 weeks, (though the amount and timing varied) and then he would ring through the list of people he had waiting until he had used up his allocation. The trick with me was that apparantly they can't leave a message telling you that they have a phone in as they have such limited numbers of them, so if you miss the call then you miss the chance to get the phone.

I was lucky in that I was getting my phone through Retentions and so I had been given a direct number to ring, and so when I saw I had a missed call from Orange I quickly rang that number and luckily managed to get a P900 before he had allocated all his supply.

So basically, be patient - they do take a while to come in and try to make sure you don't miss the call. Mine tended to come about 1pm during the week.

You are being lied to old son. My mate upgraded from an original SPV to a P900 (paid £130) just a day ago :!:
