Guest pwig Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Help, I have had my phone(SPV), coming on a year, however it was replaced half way though. Basically, on both occasions, dust has collected under the screen. one this phone the problem is much worse, so much so that it is rendering the bottom quarter of the screen useless. Anyone got any ideas?
Guest squall Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 have you contacted orange?! they should repair it for you via hayes
Guest pwig Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 I did call them, they said as I didn't buy the phone directly from them. They can't do anything. As it is counted as wear and tear....
Guest squall Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 i would phone again, there responce can vary from person to person. or try and call who ever you did get the phone from, its got to be covered under some warrenty! you could send it to hayes for repair (click on hayes) but i dont think its worth it.
Guest bikespod Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 there is a thread somewhere on the site addressing this problem. I had dust under the screen cover of my spv classic. basically the screen cover is held in place with double sided tape, so if you are very careful you can lift it with your finger nail at one point and then slide your finger round and it will pop off. I'd recommend not using a long implement, as one slip could be fatal for your screen. Apparently you should also be careful about touching the screen as it is easily damaged. a camera lens blower would probably be safest, although mine suffered no ill effects from using a lens cloth. you can then restick the cover. I had to do this a few times. but do so at your own risk etc.
Guest squall Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 to be honist cleaning it yourself is a last resort... removng the cover voids the warrenty, and you will prob chip the paintwork etc...
Guest bikespod Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 sorry, but how would it void the warranty, you cannot tell afterwards that the cover has been removed :? :?: its not that difficult and a lot cheaper than a visit to hays, not to mention not having your phone for a week or so.
Guest squall Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 you can generally tell the cover has been removed by the chipped Scratched and bent plastic that is pried out of the way to open the original spv. Removing the cover does void the warranty. i was trying to make sure pwig was aware of the dangers which can be involved in removing the cover.
Guest digger Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Hmmmmm Hayes :? My screen was fine until I sent my phone to Hayes for repair. It came back repaired, but with dust under the screen. I won't be sending it back!!!!!
Guest squall Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 if you send it to hays you have to state the dust is a problem for them to fix it, they dont look for faults unfortunatly. (squall dont like hays anyway - but lets not go into that)
Guest bikespod Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 well there's no bent plastic, chipped paint or any of the things you mention on my spv. still maybe its easier on the original model than an e2. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest squall Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 no its alot harder on the orignal spv, ive seen 4 including my own with chips etc thanks to removingh the covers. if you dont have them you did well when you took the cover off. The e200 has warrenty void stickers which rip if you take the cover off.
Guest bikespod Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 you don't have to remove the case. the screen cover comes off on its own, without the need to open the phone up. as i said its just held on with double sided tape and pops straight back on. i'm sure we are talking about different things here. the screen cover is a separate piece of plastic to the case. i've taken it off the original about 3 times. its easy.
