Guest Steven_N_P Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 Send SMS via GPRS...is this possible or are there any web sites that allow you to send free sms messages which is optimized to view on a smartphone????
Guest teddyen66 Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 I would like to hear about that tooooo Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest martin Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 SMS messages are carried by signalling to a Short Message Centre. I don't think it would make any difference to you whether its via the GSM or GPRS network. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest stevewright Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 martin - i think he means sending an SMS from a website (e.g. www.o2.co.uk) and he requires one that is optimised for an SPV sized screen (and low on bandwidth!) not sure this is worth it though. no delivery reports, harder to be sure it got sent at all, uses a different number. just buy a decent text bundle package!
Guest martin Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 Ahh OK, although it looks like there are there different questions in the post. 1 SMS via GPRS. 2 Free SMS via website. 3 SMS optimised for smartphone. What would be good is sending really long text messages via MMS. Imagine how much information you could write in one message. Only drawback would be cost. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest teddyen66 Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 I have a good reason why he might want to send sms via gprs.....if he has free gprs....he would save at bundle on the sms's Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest stevewright Posted March 15, 2004 Report Posted March 15, 2004 He would save on SMS, on but pay more on GPRS. My opinion - swings and roundabouts. Vodafone (cough) let you send a text only MMS of 500 characters for 15p (I think).
Guest teddyen66 Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 well in denmark one provider has free gprs....at the moment :-) Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest FragMeister Posted March 17, 2004 Report Posted March 17, 2004 I have used a simple web based SMS service, which although not free, does allow you to send SMS's as if they are from your own phone - so the recipient can hit Reply and it comes back to you. I have been impressed with the service, and it also allows for email delivery notifications (unlike most of the free websites where I found that messages dont always arrive). you can also send emails and it forwards them as text messages. The cost is 3.4p per message, and you get a free 50p Credit when your sign up. www.vgsmail.com Enjoy
